He could probably beat him without it , Ray was not superman there have been more than a few great fighters that would give Ray all he could handle on their best nights , it only takes one clean right shot to put the lights out on anyone , TH had real power , go and watch the fights and take more notice of what you see than what your read in the storys romanticizing the good ol days that turn men into mountains . -
Yeah but they had really good chins Tommy's is decent he'd have to fight the perfect fight in my eyes to not get his chin touched with anything solidHe could probably beat him without it , Ray was not superman there have been more than a few great fighters that would give Ray all he could handle on their best nights , it only takes one clean right shot to put the lights out on anyone , TH had real power , go and watch the fights and take more notice of what you see than what your read in the storys romanticizing the good ol days that turn men into mountains .Comment

Tommy could put a hammer on just about any chin he landed solid on and if he landed on Ray early who knows , the point I was trying to make is those old fighters were just top fighters of their day like the the Hearns and Haglers were of their day , I dont believe they were above them just precursors to next guys that learn from them , if you look at the old fights they were wild as hell and not near the science of the modern greats , Im a believer in everything gets better over the generations , last years champs evolve into next years champs , human nature creates larger than life personas over time , with the equipment today you can analyze old fights and time punches to a 100th of a second and I think people would be surprised how fast the modern fighter gets power to the target .Comment

Very well said. Few people have this opinion concerning old heroes and modern stars. That being said, I still think Ray Robinson would stop Tommy Hearns.Tommy could put a hammer on just about any chin he landed solid on and if he landed on Ray early who knows , the point I was trying to make is those old fighters were just top fighters of their day like the the Hearns and Haglers were of their day , I dont believe they were above them just precursors to next guys that learn from them , if you look at the old fights they were wild as hell and not near the science of the modern greats , Im a believer in everything gets better over the generations , last years champs evolve into next years champs , human nature creates larger than life personas over time , with the equipment today you can analyze old fights and time punches to a 100th of a second and I think people would be surprised how fast the modern fighter gets power to the target .Comment

Absolutely.
Hearns is a master Boxer with a thunderous right hand. Add a granite chin and he's indestructible.Comment

What is with this nonsense about Hearns chin? I see this all the time. Watch his fights, he took some massive shots without going down. His problem was that instead of getting defensive (like every other fighter) he'd stand and **** when he was hurt. And he paid for it a few times. Hearns had a solid chin, but practiced bad habits when hurt.Comment
