Like I've mentioned before, the verdict is still out on Quillin. Aesthetically, he's very fun to watch. like D4 mentioned, he's versatile, has tremendous power, very good speed. Is a very complete middleweight (and a huge one at that). He's extremely marketable as well.
But like every prospect that has carried that "complete" aura about them, u have to see how that fares with top level opposition. First name that comes to mind is Jermain Taylor...these were guys that were thought to have it all till they faced crafty veterans that negated a lot of important parts of their game, and they just ended up resorting to one thing.
Despite the age difference, fighting Winky is still a good challenge for him at 28. Winky might not be as fast or as strong as he once was, but if we've learned anything is the older these fighters get, the craftier they become. Im more excited about this fight than i am about Tarvey/Kayode to be honest.

Juan Manual Marquez, is there an American fighter that Americans feel as proud of as Mexican's feel about that guy.

Yes the Jury is still out, but I'm getting on the band wagon earlier
Been impressed in what I've seen of him, great to watch, and like you said very marketable.
But the fights will get tougher and tougher from here on in, this fight with Winky should tell us quite a bit more about him, not just about if he wins but how he wins.
And also agree, best fight of the weekend for me.

Don't worry about american boxing, it's doing fine. In fact why are you even worried about where a fighter comes from? Nationalism is nothing but an evolved form of tribalism.
Bradley's scared of Khan but he's fighting Pacquiao...SMFH
And with fighters like Russell Jr, Trout, Benavidez you think Quillin is the one who will bring more pride to the country? LOLLast edited by Light_Speed; 06-02-2012, 02:37 PM.

Whether Bradley is scared of Khan or not, doesn't matter, his avoidance of Khan was a bad moment in his career, plus him keeping his head down and walking away when Khan told him to grow some balls to his face.
Don't worry Quillin should put on a great performance tonight.

And now he's stepping in the ring with Pacquiao so he obviously wasn't worried about Khan.
The big fights are in America, where the big money is at, they need a national hero in the sport, someone to proud of, to keep the public interested and keep boxing growing instead of declining.
Lets hope Bradley were just chasing the pay day. Fact is he told Khan not to duck him and then Bradley ducked Khan. I like Bradley before that episode, you can't be proud of a guy like that.

If the Winky tha fought Paul Williams shows up, he gives Quillin all he can handle. Stylistically, there was nothing he could do against P-Will (who implemented a great game plan and had all the tools for it), he didn't necessarily look old, he looked as if he were trying to beat Paul in his usual style (worked against 99% of his opposition), but a strong pressuring high guard and well timed right jab was not going to work that night.
Against Quillin, he has a solid opportunity to win rounds as soon as Quillin eventually needs a rest period. Quillin is strong and has the physical advantages, but if Winky hasn't lost much in the last 3 years, it wouldn't surprise me if this fight turns out to be another version of Taylor-Wright.
