Would Hamed still be popular today? I think so, if he left religion out of it like most fighters do. For example, lot of people dislike Ward for his SOG schtick. Sport and religion aren't the best mix generally, Islam post-9/11 would especially not go down well.

The Khan thing has been discussed on here before, he picked up a crappy rep with his 1 and 2 rounders against on ITV1. It got to the point where people felt they were being duped. I'm sure there are some racists too but generally speaking he's well supported.
I agree here .I'm not one of those idiots ( who are usually not from the UK ) who thinks he's public enemy number one although there is a definite minority who hate him solely for one reason . He gets great support. I just didn't think Hamed was a great example to use .

And don't be so down on the ITV fights mate There were some crackers there where we'd get real wars when we expected blowouts . It made me a Khan fan and I miss ITV boxing . God bless that chin

Purely from memory, Hamed was generally well-liked by fans during his career, a very exciting fighter with KO power. I'm sure the cocky antics riled the old-schoolers but that wasn't race-based iirc.

Eubank on the other hand was hated by most almost like Mayweather, until he started getting beat up and showing a lot of heart towards the end of his career. Reality TV shows did him no harm either, very funny guy.

I think you're massively overestimating how much English people care about 9/11.

          Are you ******?

          I was at the fight.

They were chanting to 'who are ya' to Bute's fans (someone said Kessler but didn't know he was there).

          Idiot.

Guy is trolling, it was clearly to Bute's fans (with also chants of your not singing anymore) and to Kessler.

Nothing ****ing racist about chanting who are ya, get a grip.

I'm not talking just about 9/11 but 7/7, and other issues pertaining to racial and religious divisions that have increased since 9/11 even in the UK . Besides , Hamed also fought on HBO and do you really think he wouldn't have any backlash because of the overtness of his faith in today's climate ?

Read my prior post . I'm in no way insinuating Khan is hated solely because of this but that Hamed wasn't good example as used by another poster

It looks like during the count, a couple guys stormed into the ring. Froch easily destroyed Bute but is there some difference here between the dumbass ending to Kirkland-Molina?? Granted Bute was never going to win this fight, and Kirkland had a puncher's chance in the fight he was losing. Are there different rules in that country versus America? I guess I'm still frustrated at that ending...

The ref jumped in front of the fighters with his arms waving above his head which normally indicates a ref stopping the fight. Also, according to IBF rules, if a fighters corner team is on/in the ring during the fight, that fighter is DQ'd. Bute's team were standing on the ring apron when the ref jumped between the two fighters.

                  'Nuff said.

There is also a big difference between an HBO hyped, future superstar they need to protect against an unknown guy easily winning the fight and two top champs fighting in Nottingham, with one dominating to a KO. Maybe if it was in Canada, they could have gone that route, but even then, I doubt it.

Molina/Kirkland was pure corruption and robbery. A disgrace. Absolute disgrace. Any other fight, unless it was another unknown vs superstar prospect it would have gone on as normal. The ref waving his arms above his head is the signal that he's stopping the fight, not jumping in to issue a count.

As for froch, fantastic performance. If the rematch with ward takes place i'll bet all my points as well as cash that he gets dominated, wards a different kind of beast.
It seems that England is being swamped by ******s, and there is a backlash simmering. There are places where the police are afraid to go and whole areas are under Sharia "Law".
And I think that Froch is ***ish.
