Don't blame Dempsey for not defending against a black fighter (which really, Wills & Kid Norfolk were about the only two possible challngers), blame Tex Rickard for not wanting a repeat of the Johnson/Jeffries race riots which took place only a few years previously...

Oh, and Dempsey did in fact fight a couple/few black fighters on his way up.
YES! YES! Right on! Thank you.

Keep in mind he fought plenty of black fighters when he was on his way up/

I'm glad you agree with me, Butterfly, now...Can you tell me why Ali ducked Duane Bobick in the early part of 1977?

                hmm

Dempsey fought blacks on his way up, but that's not nearly as important as fighting them when you are a champ. Clearly black fighters were avoided by white champions at that time and to forgive that with the blink of an eye is wrong.

Kid Norfolk was the reason Harry Greb was blind in one eye. he had a detached retina when Greb fought him, greb said beforehand, "if the fight gets rough i'm gonna thumb him in the eye ", it did, he did, Kid Norfolk thumbed Greb in the eye, hard, detached his retina, he was blind in that eye for the rest of his life.

I am not saying that at all....I will give you an example. Say that a modern Heavyweight does not fight Ukranians, and for that reason does not fight the Klitchko brothers but beats everyone else in the division....does that fighter have the right to say he is the best in that division when there are potentially 2 fighters who may beat him?...see my point
