Mosley might be ruining his legacy lately but people need to remember the prime version. Dude was a savage. I like Cotto & I'm a big fan, but as of this instant, Mosley is the man. If Cotto can manage another title run, I'll probably change my mind.
Who will be remembered as the better fighter, Cotto or Mosley?

For me its close:
Head to head: Cotto won and even if Shane was a few years younger, I think he could have taken him. Either way, he was past prime but still good version.
Common opponents
Margarito: Cotto is 1-1 and Margarito was maybe cheating to get that first win. And Shane won by TKO. For now, I think its a wash because in the rematch Cotto proved he was just on another level.
Pacquaio: Cotto was in the fight until the midway point in a pretty good fight. Had a moment here and there in the latter half. Mosley on the other hand refused to show the warrior in him
Mayweather: Cotto matched him punch for punch mostly and defensively, they both battled on par. Close fight and exciting to boot against the best fighter in the game. Mosley on the other hand had nothing to offer other than a marquee punch.
Mayorga: Cotto toyed with him coming off of a shoulder surgery and then TKOd him at the end, in a fight where Mayorga was in actual shape. Mosley on the other hand was on his way to losing a fight against Mayorga before miraculously KOing him in the final seconds
Lastly in his biggest win in his career, which by all accounts is great, he was caught cheating so we have no way of knowing for sure how many fights was he cheating in prior to DLH and after DLH for sure. So there is a big cloud there.
The book is pretty much written on Mosley, while the book is still being written on Cotto and as of now, its looking pretty good in his favor.Comment

I'll give cotto the upper hand because mosely beat de la Hoya while he was using steroids so to me his wins are taintedBoth of their campaigns at the lower weights were nothing great but I'll take Cotto's run at 140 over Mosley's at 135, competition wise.
Mosley had a better run at WW. The win over a prime Oscar is just massive.
They've had similar runs at JMW, Cotto has done better record wise but his opposition hasn't been very good.
It's close, but the Oscar win is by far the best win between the two so I give it to Mosley.Comment

Right before Margarito he was the top boxer at 147. May weather was retired. At 154 he was #1 until may weather beat him.Cotto was never THE man at any weight he fought at.
He was belt holder at 140 while Mayweather, Tszyu and Hatton were there. At 147, Mayweather was the lineal champion and at 154 he was just another titlist.
At no point in his career could you say Cotto was the top dog in any division he fought at.
Compare that with Mosley, who was the man at 135, skipped a division and dethroned prime De La Hoya at WW then beat him again at 154.
Head to head, a close but clear victory over a 36 year old Mosley is still Cotto's best win, that right there is testament to Shane's greatness.
Based on that fight, prime Mosley KO's Cotto.Comment

Mosley.
Cute poll results. Shane Mosley is the benefactor of some permanent hype for his reign at 135. "GOAT" kind of hype within the media and the hardcore fanbase, and Shane Mosley is also a former P4P #1. Don't get it twisted, kids. One of these 50 year old media dorks would try and make you feel ****** for suggesting Cotto is the better overall product.Comment

Who did he beat besides Oscar and Margarito?Comment

Sorry folks, I made a mistake. Cotto was a 140 lb WBO world tittle holder and defended it successfully 5 times all by KO. The Ring has him as never winning a 140 lb tittle. I guess Ring does not recognize the WBO. Next time I'll use Boxrex as my source to begin with. Considering this I must take back my statement that he is winning the poll on popularity. With Shane's use of steriods and these 5 new KO defenses of the 140 lb tittle that I overlooked I will change my vote to Cotto in a close race.Comment
