Comments Thread For: Ward-Dawson Encounter Halts Stampede For WBC Title

The looming super middleweight fight between Chad Dawson (31-1, 17 KOs) and Andre Ward (25-0, 13 KOs) has momentarily derailed the incoming stampede for the WBC title.

Following his unanimous decision win over Carl Froch in December, Ward was nursing a hand injury. Because of the injury, the WBC removed the championship from Ward and made him the "champion in recess." At the same time, they ordered a fight between Anthony Dirrell (24-0, 21KOs) and Nikola Sjekloca (24-0, 7KOs) for the "vacant WBC title."

    Andre S.O.G. Ward‏ @andreward

Help me understand this: I was told I was stripped of my title, now I'm told that I've been restored as Champion. Does that make me 3x champ

    Dan Rafael‏@danrafaelespn

@andreward Dont try to figure out something for which there is no rational explanation.

The WBC belt is a POS and so is Jose Sulaiman.

I personally think this fight is being rushed too soon...Ward should empty his division, while Chad kills off Tavoris and Pascal, and by the time they both finish, Ward can move up and make a megafight!

First of all, I think it's a great fight for both sides!

Ward is coming off his Super Six victory over Froch. He spent the last 2 years out-boxing the best his division had to offer and is taking on Dawson immediately after. Dawson is obviously coming off of the most rewarding win of his career in beating Hopkins.

Both men are really confident right now and the momentum is in both of their favors. Unfortunately, the pendulum is about to swing a little slower for one of the two. I think it can be a career defining win for the victor, but not necessarily a career defining loss for the runner-up.

The only thing I can say is that I wish it was at 175. Outside of beating Bute, Ward has done enough at 168 to merit the move-up to 175. But it'll be a good one at any weight! Dawson will not go quietly into the night.

                September 8th.
                I have Ward winning a UD/MD.

So its safe to say that the Ward-Dawson fight is gonna be at 168? Smh ****** ****. I'm not even sure I'm interested in this fight anymore.

Dawson gonna lose and blame it on being drained. Then Ward is gonna get mad props for beating a drained Dawson and they're gonna justify it by saying "well Dawson said he would come down."

Ward Dawson is a very good fight. Might it be boring?? Yeah, but still doesn't change the caliber of fighter competing. Fans should relish this kind of matchup. I feel for the elite fighters that aren't stars. They don;t get the respect they deserve.
