Miguel Cotto v. Canelo or Maravilla; early 2013

Miguel Cotto showed this past Saturday that he still has some elite fight in him. It wasn't enough to pull out the victory, but he can still compete at a high level. There is nobody in the game that can achieve that level of defensive success against him other than Mayweather. With that being said, even in a loss, I think the future is plenty rosy for Miguel. I pin a fight against Canelo or Maravilla for early '13 because Canelo is busy in Sept (I don't know what's good yet for Maravilla) and because I'd like to see Cotto pick up another solid win against a good fighter like K9, Molina or Rodriguez in the fall/winter.

So who do you want to see in Cotto's next biggest fight and why?

    v. Canelo -- WBC Champ and becoming a good fighter. Not spectacular but is a work horse. I think it'd be a war of attrition. If Cotto brings that A-game defense (Mayweather, a career 46% accuracy only managed 26%) that he did on Saturday, along with that body attack, Canelo would be in some real deep waters. Before this fight though, Canelo needs to fight someone in Sept. who has a pulse like Kirkland, Vanes or PWilly.

    v. Maravilla -- He wants to go to Jr MW for big fights, and securing a Cotto fight is much more likely (plus he called him out on ESPN deportes which is cool) than either May or Pac. I like chances of a great brawl ocurring. Cotto can come in behind that jab against a usually guardless Sergio. I don't think Maravilla is faster than Floyd, which can help mitigate some of that power Sergio is packing.

In either bout, a good chance that war would happen.

Canelo. It would be a much bigger event and it would be a title fight.

Surely Canelo. To this day I cannot find the logic behind Cotto fighting Martinez when greater fighters won't

Cotto don't titles at this point, unless you're referring to RING/Lineal title then perhaps, but meh, either way, I don't particularly get caught up in all that stuff.

Maravilla is regarded as one of the best in the world, if not in the top three rotating lists of p4p supremacy. I think in the grand scheme of things a win over Sergio is more important at this point

*And this may be blasphemous to some, but I think Cotto has a better chance to beat Sergio than Canelo*

Then that shows the difference real fighters and celebrity fighters.

Just because some fighters don't want none of Sergio doesn't mean Cotto can stoop to their level.

Most underrated fighter of his generation should fight Canelo.

I think he should fight Alvarez in early 2013, Sergio would not be in the best interests of Cotto (too big and is filling up at 160).

I don't think he would be ready for a fight in September, that's four months way and I think Cotto would probably like to take more time to heal and get over his loss.

Who doesn't love the PR vs Mexico
                    battles

                    the Cotto that fought Floyd
                    vs
                    the Canelo that fought Mosley

                    Cotto wins.
