Does this fight actually make sense? I mean so far they've taken zero risks with Canelo and after Cotto's last performance...this is gonna be a risky fight for the cash cow. Would love to see it though, great fight!

Foreman lol, now that's an extreme example. The kids has some pop man and Cotto is battle worn and weary. I mean the man has taken some blows notwithstanding round after round of brick padded hands. Canelo cracked Suger a few times that had me wondering how the hell did he not fold!
I like Canelo, he could well go onto be a great fighter but he's simply not as good as he's currently being sold as. He's got decent power but to suggest like the original poster that he would fear for Cottos health should he face Canelo seemed a slight over estimate of his power and probably at this stage his actually ability, even given Cottos history of wars. There are questions that remain over Canelo for me; his output being one. I don't know what the punch stats were for the fight, seemed okay however when he's in against something other than a corpse I think he struggles.Comment

Canelo shows a lot of promise for someone his age, but to take a still untested fighter and stick him in with Cotto - who obviously still has it - would be unwise.
A shot Mosley with no speed, power, and most problematically no reflexes was able to stand in front of Canelo for 12 rounds and take punishment. I don't really see how Cotto would be in much trouble.Comment

The version of Mosley that Alvarez fught is really not much different from the version that fought Mayweather and Pacquiao. Considering Alvarez is fighting similiar opponents that the top 2 p4p fighters in the world are, I think hes doing rather well myself.Canelo shows a lot of promise for someone his age, but to take a still untested fighter and stick him in with Cotto - who obviously still has it - would be unwise.

And hes improving with every fight, and is only 21. Hell, most prospects are around 24 when they first get on the radar. Meanwhile, Cotto is probably getting worse, due to his ring wear and tear.
I say make it happen. It would be fireworks for sure, and it makes perfect sense: At the same weight, PR vs Mexico, big money fight, exciting...it all fits.Comment
