Why? Why should Cotto put on an inspired performance against Floyd and then have to fight someone who hasn't proven himself yet? Although I guess I can understand one of the points made above: it may be a good way to add another win for Cotto that keeps him motivated and in the game.

I'm fairly sure Golden Boy wouldn't even make that fight though. Cotto just lost to Floyd, and they eventually want Canelo in there with Floyd. If Cotto beats Canelo (I'm fairly certain that's what would happen), that'll make his chances at Floyd slimmer and/or farther away. And who knows how long Floyd will keep fighting.

Nice fight. But no real reason for the matchmakers and dealmakers at HBO/Golden Boy to make this fight right now. They won't, and don't want to potentially lose their investment.

its too risky of a fight for both of them..if canelo loses to cotto it ruins the chance of a future mega fight with mayweather, and if cotto loses to canelo its almost certainly the end of his career. i think it would be a good fight, my main concern would be how cotto handles canelos power..because as much as people wont aknowledge it, canelo can punch.
