just rewatched round 7 to see if you knew what you were talking about buuut nope.

the one at 1:59 was a good shot, 1:56 and 1:46 were caught on the gloves, can tell by the sound and no head snap back. the last punch of the round i remembered that one, lol that might have been his best landed punch and it was just a little short left arm punch but right on the button.

here is how i see it. neither landed enough to say "he beat him down" or "he clearly won the fight". Dawson was walking towards him for most of the fight, although there were times when this changed. hopkins was actually landing more clean punches even though they were almost all lunging in followed by a clinch and punch and grab tactics.

so since Hopkins was champ and 47 and fact that this big strong kid couldnt do **** to him...Hopkins should have won or got a draw. hell at least he cut Dawson with a jab...only damaging punch of the fight lol

Umm Hopkins was deliberately head-butting. Dawson landed blows to the head and body, and landed more punches. Dawson didn't beat him down, but Hopkins pot-shotting and seldom landing is not going to win him rounds.

Not only was Hopkins head-butting, but he was holding too. See the 11th round when Dawson landed a combination and Hopkins deliberately tackled Dawson to the ground. Also because of his constant head-butting and holding, Dawson had a cut in both of his eyes.

I'm very happy I didn't pay to watch that ........fight? This fight is why boxing is in the state its in. The fights are not confrontational, no one fighter is trying to win they both want to survive and get another pay day because trying to win isn't in their make up anymore. You don't see fighters today being exhausted after the fights hell they can box 20 rounds like that, Garbage!! Scully is begging that kid to move his hands, not give him direction but "please throw some punches"!!! I'm tired of Hopkins getting credit for being 47 or what ever he is. He Doesn't Come to WIN!!! This IS why boxing sucks now these guys don't have any will or desire to be the best they can be its survival mode. This kid Dawson is out of my gym in New Haven that was taken over by Brian Clarke and he was developed by Clarke and I can tell you that Clarke would have hit him in the head with a 2x4 if he fought like that wearing a Ring One color. Damn shame these guys bring nothing to a fight and a title fight??? Ridiculous!!! Not one corner gave any direction on what to do they both begged their fighters to throw punches.

i didn't see many deliberate headbuts. the one that caused a cut was just because Dawson was going in to punch and Hopkins was coming up and moving out and to the left of a crunched over position. an intentional headbut is what ortiz did, big difference, i never saw hopkins try to push his head into Chads.

of course he was holding man, when does hopkins not hold in fights? the ref was breaking the clinches pretty quickly anyways so it wasn't a huge deal in this fight

Good post. This is a big problem in boxing. Too many of the highly rated fighters are defense first and not willing to take the necessary risks to entertain the fans and finish a fight.

I basically said the same thing earlier in my defense of Hopkins. Dude is 47, cant expect much out of him especially if the other fighter is not even letting his hands go when he has all the talent in the world and athleticism, it's sad really.

if you listen to Chad's comments in the post-fight interview. he just praises Hopkins. "he fought a hell of a fight, hes a warrior" (he did say he is a dirty fighter too, but everyone knows this). Hopkins said before "all fights are dirty"

Chad clearly thought the fight was closer than you guys on here, you could tell from his comments. if he thought he dominated, he would have said so he has no problem with being arrogant and ****y if he thinks he whooped Bernards ass, but he knows it was an even fight.

anyway, who cares really. it was a boring ****ty fight. Hopkins should either retire or fight someone less of a technical boxer (like pascal was) who he can school or maybe try a move to crusier like someone else said, that division is weak. I actually wouldnt mind seeing him fight tarver again, or Kayode if he beats tarver

i like that idea. he shouldn't retire on a bull**** loss like that. i mean, cmon that's not a loss. do you agree that Dawson was almost entirely ineffective too? (just like Calslappy was). i hate the whole "oh but he outworked him" argument. who cares, the most entertaining parts of the fight are when Hopkins was clowning on Chad with his facial expressions and little taunting antics.

Sticking out your tongue and acting like a jackass doesnt mean you are winning a fight.

i know chad did not win. i actually had Hopkins winning by 1 point. i could easily see it a draw though, what ever happend with "to be the champ u must BEAT the champ?"
