And for those that say he's scared of dawson and knows he's going to lose, remember this - he didn't HAVE to fight Dawson. He could have said no to a rematch and sure he would have lost his WBC belt but he would have retained The Ring belt, which is more prestigious anyways. He could have fought lesser opponents with titles - Shumenov, Cloud or Cleverly. And honestly, no one would really fault a 47 year old man for taking these fights and it wouldn't hurt his legacy at all. Make no mistake - Bernard took this fight because he wants to prove to everyone and himself he can beat Dawson. Whether or not you think he can is irrelevant.

fighting Nathan Cleverly in Wales would have done very good money, more money than Dawson. Fighting Cloud would have been about the same as fighting Dawson as HBO & Showtime would pay for those fights (Hopkins always has very good ratings on regular HBO/Showtime). Don't act like this was his only fight, which I remind you, doesn't have much public interest.

yeah right nobody wants to see dawson at all. he could of fought cleverly in the uk for way more money. dawson couldn't sell a float to a drowning man.

cleverly and cloud are high octane action, that'd be suicide, he needs to be smart, it's not even like cloud or cleverly are better than dawson, cuz they aren't(atleast in my opinion) but the styles don't suit an aged fighter like bhop

Did you see Cloud vs Campillo? Hopkins would school the fuck out of Cloud, and I'm a big Cloud fan. Any guy who comes forward and isn't versatile like Cloud, hopkins destroys. Doesn't matter if he's 47 or 67. Easy work for hopkins. All hopkins has to do is use lateral movement, keep a good distance and counter the hell out of cloud, that will cut cloud's work-rate in half if not more.

Cleverly aint shit, he's too inexperienced for a guy like hopkins with no power and he's sloppy.

But all that is besides the point. The point was hopkins had other options besides dawson, for equal or more money.

And for the record, Dawson, stylistically, is a much harder matchup for hopkins then anyone else at 175 really.
