Comments Thread For: Abril: I'm Willing To Give Rios Another Schooling at 140

Lightweight contender Richard Abril (17-3-1, 8KOs) is still seething at his split decision defeat at the Mandalay Bay to Brandon Rios earlier this month and doesn’t believe that he will ever share the ring with the former WBA champion in the future.

I caught the last 4 1/2 rds of this fight on HBO Latino. I couldn't give any of the rounds to either fighter. It was sooo dull.

He did school him. I was looking to give a few rounds to Rios when a re-watch the fight but if anything it was worst for Rios the second time I watched it.

I think Abril won, but not convincingly. If schooling means only making your opponent ineffective, then sure. To me, Abril still had to land clean and hurt Rios. The last four rounds both fighters were smothering each others punches. So giving those rounds to the aggressor that's willing to make the fight is not a problem for me.

It'll be the exact same fight. It wasn't so much the weight but the style match up. Abril landing combos, had good movement, and created space to where Rios couldn't get anything off. Sure, it wasn't the most exciting fight by any means, but Abril CLEARLY won the fight.

When Mayweather fights, people admire him for his style and great defense. But when a nobody does it, its not boxing?? Did i miss something here? Abril won 10 rounds and lost 2 (resting). Rios landed 10 jabs the whole 12 rounds and missed 99.9% of his power punches. Abril was accurate the whole fight!! He didn't waste punches thats why it was a boring fight but everytime he threw punches he landed more than 50%!!

Topic - You are getting a rematch over Bob Arums dead body!!

It took a very long time for people to "admire" Floyd Mayweather Jr. Most people thought, and most people still do think, Floyd is a boring fighter. That's why it took so long for Floyd to become a star.

Good post, man. Abril was very accurate when he threw punches. His shots weren't powerful, but they landed crisp and flush. Richie landed several three and four punch combos that scored beautifully. Rios barely hit him clean.

I thought about the Mayweather comparison, too. There are those that complain about Abril's approach but won't say the same about Floyd. However, a lot of people don't like the way Mayweather fights, either. Those people, I believe, tend to like the come-forward types. They'll always think the brawlers are the only "real" fighters.
