I thought WV2 fought very defensively in that fight,and was a big reason he heard the final bell tbh...

i agree...vasquez fought defensive and tentative. he didn't really push himself to try to win the fight...something you can't expect mares will do. mares is a proud fighter and he's gonna bring it against donaire.

Mares looses to both guys that Montiel lost to before Donaire and he's not beating prime Hasegawa. I rate Montiel higher than him.
Vasquez Jr. is not a brawler, seriously watch him fight please. Mares is much more aggressive, offensive fighter, who throws much more punches and thus leaves himself open more. Mares gets hit alot, doesn't have solid rock chin I don't believe he can handle punches. But hey, maybe he'll prove me wrong.


Did you ever saw Wilfredo "Face first" Vasquez fighting? Looking at your assesment it doesn't look like that. Mares has more offensive skills and is better overall, but I'd say Wilfredo may be better defensive fighter.

If Mares boxes the way he did in the beginning rounds vs Morel I'd pick him but if he gets wild, brawling the way he did past the mid rounds when he was getting tagged more I'd probably pick Donaire. Even then Im not sure if I'd Donaire... Just cause I don't like him.

Styles make fights, Donaire likes guys who are aggressive, Mares is aggressive. Him liking to work the body might actually work against him in this fight because he can be caught with uppercuts when he does that, Donaire is quick enough to catch him in between his shots IMO. Donaire by TKO, ad he'll look good doing it.
