Comments Thread For: Lara’s Trainer Talks Hearns KO Win, Vanes and Martinez

Erislandy Lara made a statement with his first-round knockout win over Ronald Hearns on April 20, coming out aggressively and putting Hearns down in a heap just halfway into the opening stanza.

Lara’s trainer, Ronnie Shields, spoke with BoxingScene.com a few days after that victory about Lara-Hearns and what comes next for the junior-middleweight contender.

I think he was having a hard time getting a fight. No one else accepted to fight him except for Hearns.

Well there's a good chance he's fighting Vanes next. That will be a very good match.

He fought Hearns because the 154 pounders have been ducking him. Unlike some fighters, he badly wants to fight the best. Speaking of some fighters, don't be surprised if Vanes runs from Lara like he did Angulo. Vanes has WAAAYYYY more fights then Lara and yet Lara was the one who stepped up to fight Williams. Vanes needs to grow a pair.

i'm pretty sure Carlos Molina would like to get a fair shot at Lara after being robbed of a victory. why doesn't Lara try to redeem himself and set the record straight with Molina?

Who said they haven't tried to rematch or aren't trying?

                    Lara's people don't want it.

"While Molina would love a rematch, Luis DeCubas, Lara's manager and the card's co-promoter, said no."
