i think what made roy really effective with his leaping hook was that he didn't lean to his left just before he threw it, most fighters give it away because they don't feel satisfied unless they have their entire being into the punch, so the left hook is usually best as a counter punch

but obviously, you also have to be very fast to even attempt it or end up looking like a man on the moon

Probably easy to time unless you are on the speedy side

A leaping left hook may have power but if you throw it too much you learn the hard way that a straight right hand gets there first.

Floyd Patterson was famous for his leaping left hook and he got alot of power and reach with it.

Another guy who had a vicious leaping left hook was Shane. When he was younger he could leap instantly from a good distance. Floyd has an insanely fast one as well...Roy jones needs no mention too. Zab has a good one, I think I've seen Berto throw it a few times. The guys who pull it off mostly are blessed with freakish athletic ability.

fernando montiel made a career with this punch...thats basically his only world class trait....Abraham had a devastating one too(though, not as accurate)

just felt like mentioning non blacks, for diversity

Same reason why you don't see a lot of boxers throw 12-punch combinations = not many have the athletic ability to pull it off.

Shane used it a lot here. First one at :54. I just happened to be watching this. One of my favorite fights here.
