This thread tells me that Miguel Cotto is very overrated. I know he has a lot of fans, but let's be real, he's not at the level now that Ricky Hatton was at in 2007. In 2007, I think he was at that level, but as of right now he's mentally challenged, physically worn out, flat footed and slow. Ricky Hatton in 2007 was a much better fighter than Miguel Cotto is now and everybody is going to see it when Mayweather completely destroys and embarrasses him on May 5th. He only won 1 or 2 rounds but Hatton actually gave Mayweather a very tough fight for 5 or 6 rounds, Cotto isn't fast enough and doesn't have the footwork and mental determination that Hatton had so I see him getting chopped up from the get go and being stopped quicker and easier than Mayweather stopped Hatton. And I like Miguel Cotto, but unlike a lot of people in this thread I am a realist and I call it how I see it. An undefeated Ricky Hatton would beat this version of Cotto.
People need to put their personal bias aside and look at the facts when analysing topics like this. Ricky Hatton beat Kostya Tszyu who is far better than anyone that Miguel Cotto has beaten in his entire career. I'm not stating that Miguel Cotto is not a very good fighter but to claim that this version of him is better or even significantly better than a prime, undefeated Hatton is just absurd in my eyes. It would have been a 50-50 fight in their primes but Hatton was ranked ahead of Cotto for a reason. His wins over Tszyu and Castillo are significantly better than any of Cotto's wins at 140 and the Tszyu win is better than any of his wins. Miguel Cotto looked better because he was fighting very limited fighters that were designed to make him look good. He also had the Top Rank and HBO hype machines behind him which is why so many people thought, and still think he that is better than he is. Unfortunately we are in an era where a lot of boxing fans are gullible and easily get deceived by the hype and victories over limited opponents, a fact evidence by the widespread popularity and ridiculously overrated status of Manny "I let other people make decisions for me" Pacquiao.Last edited by JK1700; 04-24-2012, 02:30 PM.Comment

Um Cotto is at 154 now but even any version at 147 destroys Hatton.
I disagree though about people saying any Cotto beats Hatton, at 140 it would have been a good fight. Cotto didnt seem to have as good punch resistance at 140 as he did once he moved up, it would be a hard fight for him.Comment
