Let's see who these 18 World Champs are:
1. Bernard Hopkins
was not a prime Hopkins, it was a close fight, but hey, good win for Roy
2. Thulani Malinga
Good fighter
3. James Toney
good win for Roy again
4. Vinny Pazienza
total joke win cause Pazienza was waaaay above his natural fighting weight. He fought Roy Jones at 168 when in truth Pazienza was a natural lightweight (135 pounds).
5. Eric Lucas
Lucas is a decent fighter, not more and not less. Period
6. Mike McCallum
Hall of Famer, but McCallum was 40 years old and therefore not in his prime. So that win doesn't count really. Does it?
7. Montell Griffin
Griffin is a good fighter and he gave Roy all sorts of trouble in the first fight, some say Griffin was ahead on the scorecards when Roy suckerpunched him twice when Griffin was taking a knee. Roy loses by Disqualification, Roy wins the rematch by KO
8. Virgil Hill
Good fighter, but was also at the end of his career and got beaten by Michalczewski right before the Roy Jones fight.
9. Lou Del Valle
tough, but average fighter. Was Roy's sparring partner. Won one bogus belt against a no-name fighter and lost it in his next fight.
10. Otis Grant
you never heard of him? He won a belt against Ryan Rhodes, defended it once against another guy you have never heard of, and then lost the belt to Roy Jones.
11. Reggie Johnson
that is actually a good name on Roy's resume.
12. Richard Hall
Lost all his title fights except one bogus interim belt-fight against a no-name fighter. Both Hall and Roy Jones tested positive for some steroid after their fight.
13. Julio Cesar Gonzalez (may he rest in Peace)
he won only one title fight against Michalczewski in a close fight when Michalczewski was at the end of his career. He lost all his other title fights (Clinton Woods twice, Zsolt Erdei, Roy Jones)
14. Clinton Woods
You guys know Clinton Woods. Tough, decent fighter. No special effects.
15. John Ruiz
Very tough, very boring, clinches in all his fights 90% of the time. Ruiz got tons of undeserved title shots and no disrespect to him, but bottom line is he is one of the worst Heavyweight Champs in the history of boxing. if Roy really wanted to beat the man at Heavyweight, he would have fought Lennox Lewis.
16. Antonio Tarver
Some pple say Tarver beat Roy Jones 3 times, so basically Tarver shouldn't be on this list. Should he?
17. Felix Trinidad
you kidding me? Tito was absolutely past his prime. Winky Wright had retired Tito before. Roy was also shot, but Tito was not only shot but fought him at lightheavyweight (or a catchweight of 170 pounds). You guys do know Tito was a natural welterweight, right? So what does this win mean? It wasnt even a title fight by the way.
18. Jeff Lacy
No disrespect to him either, but he was totally done after the Calzaghe fight. Calzaghe dished out a career-ending beating and for some reason the ref and the cornermen let the fight continue. So a shot Roy Jones playing around with a even more shot Jeff Lacy in a non title fight.
so those are the 18 World Champs which Roy Jones beat.
Not that impressive when you really look at all those names cause most of those guys only won maybe one title fight and won some interim paper title at one point of their career which they lost in the next fight.
I don't dislike Roy Jones, I just dislike the people who don't care about the truth. Roy Jones was a very good boxer, but what I will remember him for is ducking Michalczewski and guys like Chris Eubank, Nigel Benn, Steve Collins and Frankie Liles. And no, its not a myth that Roy Jones was fighting tons of cabdrivers and he did fight firemen, policemen and teachers during his career. (some even in world title fights)
