If he identifies himself as a Cuban, he has every right to. And its not like this is a new development in Quillin, he's been pretty outspoken about his Cuban background and has cited this for being the reason he began Boxing in the first place.

I know a huge part of why Quillin said that is because he really DOESN'T want any part of Lara, but for folks to use the fact he was born in Michigan to try and downplay or discredit him being Cuban is ridiculous.

thats like me saying Miguel Cotto can't claim being Puerto Rican because he was born in Rhode Island.

As far as Cuban-born fighters not wanting to fight each other, I understand it completely. Most of these guys had to face each other in the amateurs for years (sometimes decades), why would u go through the enormous difficulty of having to defect and come to this country to end up fighting your countrymen anyway? From a business perspective it doesn't make sense, either. Its not like any of them are big draws, and the risk wouldn't be worth the reward.
