I don't have much of a problem with Cleverly wanting the biggest pay day he can get; but I believe Cleverly is trying to use Hopkins' name to legitimize himself more than wanting the payday. Make your own name don't try to use a 47 year old legend in Hopkins. Andre Ward has said he would not fight Bernard Hopkins. Beating a 47 year old Hopkins does nothing for a elite prime champion. Fraud champions want to take advantage of a 47 year old legends name. I fully expect Dawson to beat Hopkins and Cleverly will still push for a Hopkins fight. If Hopkins decides to retire witch is very possible after a loss to Dawson I fully expect Cleverly to continue to fight bums or wait for Froch to lose a couple more fights and call him out. Cleverly doesn't even deserve the opportunity to put Hopkins name on his resume'.

Who cares if hes 47? He's currently the LHW champ. And in all honesty, he'd wipe the floor with Cleverly

        B-Hop is LHW champ.

There is nothing wrong with Cleverly wanting to fight a legend. Every boxer wants a "name" on their resume.

Whether Cleverly deserves it or not is a different matter (IMO he doesn't) but can you blame him for wanting the fight? No.

Kind of a pointless thread bro.

47 is very old for a fighter and Bernard is champion because of a weak LHW division in all honesty. Hopkins is still good but I don't think he is elite anymore and his age will catch up to him very soon (April 28th). Dawson would not beat a Hopkins that beat Tarver or Pavlik but I think he is going beat Bernard up now and this is only because Bernard too old to beat with someone like Dawson right now. I think Bernard may be able to still beat Cleverly but I don't think it's really a given and if Bernard fights his age I think Cleverly will win. How long do you think Bernard can realistically fight at this level? Hopkins has defied the odds but father time eventually catches up with everyone and for someone that hasn't beat ANYONE Cleverly doesn't deserve the opportunity to have Hopkins on his resume'. Nathan clearly doesn't want to fight any of the top guys at 175 or 168. He just wants the old guy that may very well fight his age soon.

I respect you guy's opinion. I would like to hear from a few other people that are not from the UK's opinion to before I would say it's a pointless thread. If others agree it's pointless I will delete the thread no problem.

I do understand where you guys are coming from. By wanting to fight the champ you can't really say Cleverly is scared of competition but when the champ is a old man and you don't have any interest in fighting any of the other top fighters in the weight class it makes me scratch my head.

He's going after the biggest payday he can get, nothing head scratching about it. He's a prize fighter, he doesn't fight for free.

The conclusion that I've come to from you guy's responses are:

Cleverly wants the biggest money fight out there for him. I can't knock him for that at get your money Nathan. I will like to see what he does after the Hopkins - Dawson fight on the 28th. If Dawson wins is Cleverly still talking about fight Hopkins or he shows interest in fighting Dawson. If he is still talking about Hopkins I will no longer follow his career and could care less what he does.

It looks like Cleverly wants to portray himself as a fighter but really is a fraud looking to make a name off a old legend.
Hopkins is a hall of fame, atg, legend.. you can't blame Cleverly for wanting to fight him while he's still active.. he won't be around for long and any light heavy would love to fight hopkins just so they can say they fought hopkins.. hell, even sergio martinez entertained the idea of fighting b-hop..

i dont think cleverly beats the hopkins who fought pascal..but b-hop might get old overnight any time so who knows..

If Hopkins beats Dawson I take back everything I've said in this thread because this clearly means B-Hop is still the best in the division and if Cleverly wants to fight him then I respect Cleverly for wanting that challenge. But I can't see Hopkins winning this fight against Dawson. Due to the fact that I haven't heard Cleverly show any interest in fighting anybody other than Hopkins I can see him still pushing for a fight if Hopkins loses. I would take no pleasure in beating a 47 year old legend former champion personally. This is how I believe Andre Ward looks at a possible fight with Bernard. I just feel Bernard is champ because the weight class is weak. Bernard is one of may favorite fighters of all time so my opinion is biased. I just don't like the idea of someone like Cleverly that hasn't done anything in the sport given the opportunity to beat Hopkins. If Cleverly said he wanted the winner of the Dawson- Hopkins fight I wouldn't have a problem either.

even if Hopkins loses against Dwason he's still one of the best at 175. Hopkins is not "shot". A little past prime maybe but he's still a very good fighter.

infact i think he beats Cleverley right now.
