Margarito and Hatton fight completely different, and you have to add Margarito's size to the equation. Hatton like to bumrush a bit and Cotto even at 140 had a solid jab and worked off of it very well. Hatton also never faced a puncher like Cotto at 140. I like Cotto's punch selection a lot better as well while Hatton pretty frequently wasted punches and got clipped (as did Cotto as well, but IMO against harder punchers). I think Cotto was and is simply a better boxer than Hatton.

Fundamentally (for the purposes of this comparison) they're both pressure fighters who come forward and can take punch or three on the way in, Hatton's footwork has worked his way inside against fighters with better footwork and more elusiveness than Cotto. Cotto is dangerously inactive on the inside laying on the ropes wouldn't cut it v Hatton cos he wouldn't let him out of there.

I will agree Cotto is a better pure boxer with superior timing but that isn't going to help him much if the fight isn't fought in the middle of the ring.

Paule was fkd from the second round when Hatton cracked him with a right hand, it was an easy win.
