I was OK with the Juanma-Gamboa build up. The problem with what happened there is that they stopped not only matching them in the same card, pretty much stopping the build up and Juanma got derailed.
After watching Juanma struggle vs Mtagwa he should've never matched him up vs Salido who stays consistent throughout later rounds. Great matchmaking.

The argument with the Mtagwa fight could be that he was drained, he was really hurting himself making 122. Which affected his chin resistance and stamina. Yes looking at it in hindsight the Salido match up was a bad matchmaking. But, going into the fight Juanma was the favorite to win. Salido was seen more as a journeyman, fringe contender type. But, yes not good matchmaking.

One of the very few times that Top Rank has blown it. Bruce Trampler might the best matchmaker in the sport right now. But, he isn't perfect either.

My big problem with the article is that Arum is making it sounds like HBO is going to buy this garbage. Almost everyone knew Donaire was probably going to take an easy fight this summer, but I didn't think it'd be on HBO. Donaire has had 2 easy fights in a row on HBO. I hope he doesn't get a 3rd one.

There's a huge difference between Gamboa vs Juama and Rigo vs Donaire. There was already a ton of clamor for Gamboa vs Juama so more buildup wasn't necessarily needed. There's zero clamor (the type that matters, not the hardcore internet type) for Donaire vs Rigo so a ton of more buildup is needed for that.

This is just like the Broener situation, on the UC of the 05-19 Fight on HBO. These fights do not belong on HBO, I am tired of meaningless fights on HBO. All fights on that network, and Showtime need to be meaningful fights. Let the meaningless fights/showcase fights/one sided fights go to PPV or lesser shows(ESPN FNF, etc). I feel like my HBO subscription this past year especially has been these showcase fights, IE: Chavez Jr., Canelo, etc.

If HBO continues to show these Donaire fights against lesser opponents, why wouldn't Donaire take it? The money is great, HBO will still showcase and portray Donaire as an elite fighter to buy over the lesser boxing fans. The risk will be minimal. HBO really needs to step up, and use the power that they hold as being the top showcase for boxers.

theres absolutely no reaosn to build up rigondeux vs. donaire. donaire is not a at a point in his career where he could afford build upsand rigo is never gonna be a big star. so that much is false. its clear that this is more a case of top rank not wanting donaire in the ring with rigo. and theres zero clamour to see either guy fight outside of hardcore fans truth be told.

                Please die Bob Arum

There is NO reason why Donaire and Rigo shouldnt be fighting.

I don't care about any of you people's excuses. The best need to fight the best Period.

That's how we get classics like Barrera vs Morales and Pacquiao vs Barrera., and that's the only way legends are born, not the bull**** pampering cherrypicking fashion show Arum is running.

That mother****er NEVER gives us what we want.

Seems like this new dude that came over to HBO is gonna be blowing their reputation if he allows this fight and the Broner one to happen. If HBO wanna screw up their image with ****ty fights let them. I'd gladly cancel them and go with Showtime, they even have ShoBox on Fridays. Then there's also CBS who has outdone HBO so far with just the Zab Judah event IMO.

You can look at it that way or that Juanma was never that good. It seemed he was gassing vs Salido in their first fight too and he NEVER liked getting hit either. Im not talking just about the Salido fight.
