Why do people even care about weight classes in boxing?

yes size matters, but isn't that the case with all sports? The NBA doesn't have separate leagues for midgets, the NFL doesn't have separate leagues for skinny guys. It's like saying current NBA player are only good because they're tall, and there are a bunch of 5'6 guys out there better than LeBron and Kobe. Or current NFL players are only good because they're big, and the best players are really 125 lb dudes. Point is, no one cares.

For example to say Pacquiao is more of an ATG than the Klits is crazy. Think about it. Earl Boykins is P4P better than Michael Jordan, so would you rank Earl Boykins ahead of Michael Jordan on the ATG list? makes absolutely no sense. So why do we do it in boxing.

Size is an attribute just like any other, just like speed. Some people are born with it some people are not. I think this is why boxing is seen as a joke. Every other sport only cares about the best, they don't care about setting handicaps for less genetically gifted people, while boxing is focused on these little guys who "cant help it" if they're small.

so you're saying they should just round up all the fighters and have them fight each other regardless of their weight, and using other sports as a measuring stick to why boxers are in weight classes?

i swear everyday my IQ drops 5 points from coming on here. wow...

no i never said that if you read my post. I agree fighters should be a same size. What I'm saying is that why do we care about them? Little guys can fight little all they want, they just shouldn't be relevant

the little guys are the only ones keeping this sport alive, so wtf are you talking about exactly, i still dont know? you're saying there should be no relevant weight class below 160-168, or what?

Pretty much any belts and accomplishments below 130 are worthless to me. If they got rid of every weight class below 126 I would hardly notice. To that extent I agree with you.

I'm not against weight classes. I'm saying when talking about the best fighters, lower weight classes should even be relevant. Again saying Pacquiao is more of an ATG than the Klits is like saying Earl Boykins is more of an ATG than Michael Jordan

I agree. Boxing is a sport just like any other, and size matters. To everyone saying, does that mean 140lb guys should fight 240 lb guys? No. The point is, if boxing didn't have weight classes, all these lower weight class guys would be forced to work at McDonald's or find another job. They wouldn't even be in boxing.

although I'm a fan of the lower weight classes, I must agree. No one would care about a Lightweight Football League or a Midget Basketball League. Which is basically what boxing does and why it's a niche sport
