Wow, the WBA is so bipolar lol. They allow Sturm to have as many voluntary defense as he wants and allowed him to avoid his mandatory and obvious beating against Gennady Golovkin. Yet, they have the decency to recognize the disgrace of a decision with Abril-Rios. Thank goodness the WBA actually did something good for a change.

Well he should, title was only up for him to win, not like he could lose it to Rios

I think that in both cases they're motivated by a love of sanctioning fees more than anything.

Well, it is a small consolation prize for his troubles. Here, Richard, for fighting a man who didn’t bother to make weight, for getting the fight stolen from you, and for been cheated out of the extra $50K that you fairly earned……….a worthless interim title.

They didn't have a choice really. If they had demoted him after a robbery like that then they would have looked absolutley ridiculous. Abril should be the champion and there is no debate to be had with regards to that.

Of course the LEECHES from the WBA will agree that Abril should remain with that meaningless "interim" title cause if that cardboard vesion of a title would end up vacant then they can't collect their sanction fees for fighting & defending that bootleg title..

I may be wrong. but I'm sensing a slight disdain for interim titles there?

I don't really know what to make of this. I'm genuinely still pissed about that fight.

If it helps his career a little then great but to be fair, it's more likely to benefit them.

How could we arrange a top tank boycott?

You just broke it down to what it means. It's all politics and economics and doesn't show in the slightest that Abril was robbed on the highway.

The decision was a disgrace and people who don't see the mechanics behind the WBA decision have no clue what boxing has developed into.
