Comments Thread For: Mike Alvarado: I Deserve The Marquez Fight, Not Rios

Junior welterweight contender Mike Alvarado stole the show on Saturday night at the Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas. Alvarado (33-0, 23KOs) won a ten round unanimous decision over Mauricio Herrera (18-2), who took a lot of punishment in the contest. The fight was exciting and the action was non-stop.

Good win for Alvarado, and he clearly won. I had him winning 117-111. He just wore Herrera down, and it's not like Herrera is a bum or anything. Herrera had beaten Dallas Jr and Provodnikov going into the Alvarado fight. That's two pretty good wins over Prescott and Herrera for Alvarado.

Rios looked terrible. Yes, Abril was holding a lot, but he wasn't doing the s**t that Molina did to Kirkland, it wasn't nearly as bad. I had Abril winning 118-110, it wasn't even close.

I can see Arum having someone else fight Marquez in July, and he could potentially make Rios-Avlarado now, which is still a good fight and a war.

It's not like he's fought complete bums either. He fought Ray Narh, who was at least ranked in the Top 10 by a few organizations. He beat Prescott, he beat Abril and Khan, and should also have wins over Vazquez and McCloskey. And he beat Herrera, who was coming off solid wins over Dallas Jr and Provodnikov.

He's been in there with good fighters. I don't think he beats Khan, Marquez, Bradley, or Judah, but I'd give him at the very least a shot at 140 against Maidana, Rios, Matthysse, Soto, etc.

At the end of the day this won't alter Bob's agenda of making Pac vs JMM IV later this year.

Alvarado deserves a big name fight before a title shot. Rios has a better resume for Marquez fight ,outcome is what happened last night
