Exactly. Even if he does fight Martinez, his legacy is already set so this would just be the cherry.

This is Floyd's 1st fight at 154 in a long time and Floyd is going to jail. I dont expect him to fight Sergio or Pac next. I think he would fight Canelo or someone like that 1st and should. He can fight Pac & Sergio after that fight. Sergio is fighting JCC anyways. The only thing Floyd has to do is fight either Pac or Sergio by the end of 13

What if he fights Canelo in December though??? Assumming Floyd fights once more this year, Late in the year, Sergio won't be there. Isn't he fighting the Lee-Chavez winner in September???

I will hate the Canelo fight if they fight in December and Canelo hasn't beaten a Top SWW (Cotto-Molina-Lara-Kirkland).

But, Floyd's only real options for a possible December fight are Alvarez, if he beats a Top SWW first in September, or Andre Berto if he beats Victor Ortiz.

The soonest Floyd-Sergio could happen is the Spring 2013 anyway, or am I missing something???

          Yes, it's a pseudo-Floyd bashing thread.

After Cotto he got to do time
comes out and he will say he needs time
to himself and will take time off the sport
comes back a year later cherry picks,
Fights some bum takes another year off
fights Martinez first cause he old then
            he retires for good...
            Pacquiao fight?
            Canelo fight?
            never happens...

If he beats Shane and Kirkland, I would like to see that fight.

I don't really know how to answer this, at first glance the answer would be no as presently Martinez is the greater challenge.

In terms of legacy it would actually be better for Mayweather to fight Canelo ( unless he fights Martinez at 160 for the middle weight strap). As things stand both Martinez are looking to get in the Hall of Fame, if Floyd beats Martinez his luster goes and he will just be another forgotten fighters in the years to come, if Floyd beats Canelo he still has another 15 years to become a Hall of fame fighter.

Ideally he'd fight Pacquiao, go to 160 and fight Martinez, then drop to 154lb fight Canelo and call it a day.

Mayweather really doesn't need Martinez or Canelo. His legacy was sealed long ago as a great HOF fighter.

His legacy has been sealed but that doesn't mean he cannot enhance it. Is the the GOAT? No and even if he was doesn't mean he cannot improve himself further, likes of Ray Robinson and Ali didn't stop taking on challenges because they had done enough to seal their legacy.
