I think it is floyd who was irrelevant when he retired, nobody really knew hed gone. Just wanted to know when he was coming back so someone could beat him, no one believed hed retired for good.

i remember when PBF retired ... pacquiao just took over and had a great run... i dunno if mayweather was expecting MP's ascencion to the point of really threatening to overshadow his accomplishments before his first retirement? me thinks he never saw it coming...

the pacquiao-dela hoya fight really was a significant event in boxing... pacquiao learned that he could compete beyond lightweight, it opened the door for marquez to run after him(in turn having a great run of his own) and the dynamics of lineal championships become clearer to the newer generation of fans...
