Comments Thread For: Ustinov vs Gavern in Place for 4/26 in Kharkiv, Ukraine

Towering heavyweight contender Alexander Ustinov (26-0, 20 KOs) will bounce back into action on April 26 at the Palace of Sports in Kharkiv, Ukraine. The 6’8’’ giant, who is presently ranked #3 by the WBA, #5 by the WBO and #10 by the IBF, faces a rugged American charge in the game’s veteran Jason Gavern (21-9-4, 10 KOs) a well-known journeyman/gatekeeper of the heavyweight division. The IBO I/C title will reportedly be at stake in this fight.

gavern is a decent opponent but ustinov keeps fighting this level of competition & needs to start fighting B level guys like kevin johnson, fres oquendo, oliver mccall. gavern is a solid fighter but a C+ level gatekeeper at best. ustinov has a high rank & should be taking on top 20 guys now at this stage of his career. he & john banks both fight under the klitschko's K2 promotion. they should fight each other. i forgot banks has a NABF mandatory vs tony grano coming so this won't happen.

Ustinov wins this by UD in my opinion, Ustinov's potentially 3 fights away from a world title fight in my opinion, if he wins this then fights a Michael grant/Ray Austin and then a kevin Johnson he will be right up there knocking on the door of a title fight.
