Peter Responds to Briggs
The support team of heavyweight contender Samuel “The Nigerian Nightmare” Peter say their fighter would be happy to grant Shannon Briggs’ wish for a showdown. “It’s a great fight for Samuel. Tell Shannon that Samuel is fighting on December 15 (vs. Robert Hawkins at the Hard Rock Casino in Hollywood, Florida) and then he’s going back home to visit Africa,” says manager Ivaylo Gotzev. “But after that, he would love to come back and fight him…if he seriously wants to get in the ring with Samuel.” Peter, 24-1 (21 KOs), is coming off his first defeat, a 12-round decision loss to Wladimir Klitschko in September in which he scored three knockdowns. “We could make this happen as early as next spring,” added Gotzev. “Any time Mr. Briggs wants to take that step up, we’ll make sure his wish is granted.” Peter’s camp was responding a ********* story last week in which the comebacking Briggs said that contenders David Tua and Calvin Brock were “afraid,” to face him and expressed the hope that Peter would be willing to fight. “I'm sure we can get the TV networks to buy a Briggs-Peter match,” adds promoter Dino Duva of Duva Boxing. “It would be a great crossroads fight for both guys, a real fan-interest type of fight. I will do everything I can to accommodate Shannon and end his career once and for all. I think Madison Square Garden would be an appropriate place for that, don't you?”
