Lineage starts on the first defense of an UNDISPUTED championship. period end of story. it cant and doesn't mean anything else and never will. anyone who tells you otherwise is uninformed.

The "Lineage" is often open to interpretation, as far as I'm aware the "Ring Title" is their interpretation of "The man" and the "Lineal Champion".

But, other's people may differ to there's I.e Mosley's WW Lineage in 09-10. Many considered him the Lineal Champion whereas The Ring and other's felt he wasn't.

So, it does get confusing at times.

That's how I look at it anyway and always have.

          ^^^^^ Yeah ... that's about right.

I sure as hell have a really hard time calling the winner of that fight a lineal champ
no you have to be an undisputed champion to establish lineage. you have to unify the belt thats the only way.

Bernard Hopkins established lineage by being the undisputed MW champ, making him the RING MW champ, and than he lost to Jermian Taylor. Jermain Taylor lost to Kelly Pavlik, who lost to Sergio Martinez. That's why Sergio is the RING MW champ.

If the universal #1 and #2 fight though, it can be for the vacant RING/Lineal title. Andre Ward vs. Carl Froch for example.

So....if Gamboa and Salido fought next, it could be for the vacant RING FW title. If Nishioka and Rigondeaux fought right now, it could be for the vacant RING SBW title. If Moreno and Mares fight, it could be for the vacant RING BW title.

i dont know how they decide the ring champion but to start lineage you have to unify.

being the ring champion doesn't create lineage. you have to be the undisputed champion.

                      The guy to beat?

He'd be the guy that Mayweather already beat.

Do you realise how perverse it sounds to say Mayweather would have to beat the guy he already KTFO to become Lineal Champ? No? Not getting through yet?!!??!

And how many times are you going to tell me to "go to bed"? You seem overly worried about getting me into bed. Its disturbing.
