The Ring Title is not the lineal title.

Roy Jones was the Ring Champion but Dariusz M was the lineal champ.

    There's your lesson for today.

You lost everyone when you started mentioning Martinez and Forrest. As if they were lineal champs. They were WBC champs. But, they were never ever lineal champs at 154.

Vacant lineal titles all you need is universally the top 2 guys in the division fight each other. Not just the top 2 guys by one source like the ring. But, the top 2 guys universally. It doesn't matter if the other titles are on the line or not.
Yeah it's really only up to the RING when it's all said and done. What belt did Marquez have when Pac beat him at 130....WBC?

How about Floyd vs Kirkland? I would pay to see that.

            This is true.

Also, would point out that for awhile the ring title was vacant at Flyweight. But, the lineal champion dated back till' the 70's as far back with Miguel Canto. The lineage hasn't been broken since. To the ring credit here though they finally got it right.

There is still some debate if Erdei is still the lineal champion. Since he only had 1 Cruiserweight. And, then went back down to Light Heavyweight.

Also like David P. Greisman mentioned that the ring were too quick to pull the trigger in making Hernandez-Cunningham II for the ring title. When Huck is still campaigning at Cruiserweight. Hernandez might be the ring champion. But, Hernandez-Huck would decide the lineal champion.

Says who? You? Any mixture of an alphabet soup belt and the ring belt qualifies as lineal title, or the #1 and #2 guys who are usually alphabet soup champs anyways.

Yes JMM had the WBC. But, that's not the reason why that fight was for the lineal champion. He could have had the WBA or IBF or WBO or IBO or not even have the belt. As long as him and Pac were recognized universally as the top 2 fighters at 130 is all that was needed.

I'd love a Floyd vs Kirkland bout. I;m thinking Anne is going to have some words for James though and won't be too keen on taking the top 5 guys quite yet. Gotta erase that Molina stain first.

Did you stop reading there? He actually gave you a great example.
