Yes JMM had the WBC. But, that's not the reason why that fight was for the lineal champion. He could have had the WBA or IBF or WBO or IBO or not even have the belt. As long as him and Pac were recognized universally as the top 2 fighters at 130 is all that was needed.
The RING has always crowned a lineal champion.

          Good god.

No they dont. They crown The Ring Champion hence the name.

            Right?

Floyd and Canelo being 1 and 2 at the weight as well as being champions at the weight fighting for the RING title will definitely establish the lineal champion at 154, which is really only after all "The man" in the division.

I know people HATE to give Floyd credit for anything, but it is what it is.

              Ring and Lineal are different.

For example, Floyd has Ring titles in 2 weight classes, 135 and 147. And he has 1 lineal title in one weight class, which is 130, but Floyd was never the Ring champion at 130, but he was the lineal champion there.

So if he wins the RING title (which is essentially the recognized lineal champ) and beats Cotto and Canelo at 154, he won't be "The Man" to beat in the division, like Forrest was after he beat Mosley?
