When he fought Lewis on 10 days notice having been training for a mch lesser fighter in David Bostice (I think) he was really quite "green. Not experienced enough to fight for the World Championship and do full justice to the opportunity. So he did very well in giving Lewis such a beating for the 6 rds that he was forced to retire and not give him the promised return.
There's no mistake about it, the WBC was stripping him on that very day that he announced his retirement. He did it just a couple of hours before he was due to be stipped. A genuine "dog in a manger".......
