Chavez/Taylor I was the PERFECT fight. A fight fan couldn't ask for anything more.
The pre-fight hype was just as crazy as the actual fight itself. It was a perfect style contrast. The highly skilled, flashy boxer/puncher from philly who had all the promise and talent needed to dominate the 140 division...possibly becoming an all-time great at that weight. On the other hand you had the legend. Julio Cesar Chavez was almost god-like at the time with the undefeated record and his destructive style of boxing. He was already a HOF'er and was ready to take on the biggest challenge of his career.
The actual fight played out like a dream. Taylor fought masterfully and fought masterfully while fighting Chavez' fight. He never backed down and outworked the legend until the very end. Both guys landed punches that would have devastated lesser fighters. It was probably the most brutal contest ever seen at that weight as well.
The drama and controversy at the end needs no description. Hell of a fight.Comment
