you could take two random bums that have no defense and throw them in with each other. This was essentially Corrales - Castillo (except Castillo is actually good). Hearns-Hagler gotta be the best because although it was only 3 rounds it was non-stop action and there was so much skill involved (see when Hearns uses ropes for leverage).Comment

I disagree...I doubt you would be able to take as much puishment as those guys and still even be able to walk, most popele can't even constantly move around the ring for 2 rounds whitout sucking wind, come on man those are world class athlethesOriginally posted by SugaShaneyou could take two random bums that have no defense and throw them in with each other. Ward vs Gatti I for pure heart if not skill
foreman vs. ron lyle for all out bomb fest
archie moore vs yvon durelle (this is my personal favorite, moore is 45 at the time and fighting for the light heavy title, he gets viviously put down 3 times in the first and somehow makes in through and slowly comes back to win by KO in the 11th. an absolutely masterful boxing performance by an aging legend, if you pay attention you may catch it on espn classic cometime.)
i also like Hearns/duran for best knockout, and for best example of how styles make fights.Comment

I can't say it but I'll list a few "contenders" for this "title" (in no order):
Holyfield/Bowe I, Hagler/Hearns, Barrera/Morrales I, Chacon/Limon IV, Castillo/Corrales I, Gatti/Ward I, Ali/Frazier III, Chavez/Taylor I & Arguello/Pryor IComment

I've seen all the nominees and nothing beats Castillo-Corrales. It was two elite fighters laying into each other with everything. It had cuts, swelling, knockdowns, and a clean knockout. No Barrera-Morales or Ali-Frazier fight had that.Comment

Thrilla in Manilla...was just a great great fight in its own...then considering the level of fighters invovled...scheduled 15 round fight...back and forth...stoppage...
Ali/Foreman was one of the most inspiring fightsComment

For me it has to be Benn v McClellan, real shame about the outcome to McClellan though as he was a class act and I wouldn't wish that on anyone!Comment

Ali Frazier III, The Thrilla In Manilla, given the 100 plus heat and humidity, the punishment each took. These 2 men pounded each other for 14 rounds. The humidity was so bad if you look at pics of the fight you can see that the gloves are deformed from moisture. After the fight even though he won, Ali said it was the closest thing to death he had ever experienced. Frazier was in the hospital for over a week maybe longer. Ali collapsed after the fight. Both were extremely dehydrated. Ali was quoted as saying at the end of the 14th rnd that if Frazier hadent quit he would have. 2 Great warriors. Best fight of the modern day era.Comment
