Brandon had no knowledge Abril was going to do this. If it was staged it wasn't on his team's side. Garcia always smiles at pressers when Brandon talks ****. Look at the Antillon presser and up until Urbano talks about Brandon's wife, Robert was all smiles

I saw some footage about it on youtube and I think they might have caught wind that Gamboa was not going to show up so Abril's team decided to challenege him publicly..gotta speak up to get a fight nowadays..in terms of the matchup:
Abril is the taller fighter and seems to have a decent reach adavantage over Rios. So if Rios can get inside and work the body, its gonna be a short night for Abril. But if he can keep Rios at the end of his power punches he might have a good shot at pulling off the upset. Not the fight I wanted to see but based on Rios weight issues, it might be a tough fight after all.Comment

Id like to see Abril win but like so many pointed out I don't think he has the pop to keep Rios off of him. He's gonna have to do some hardcore boxing and not get caught. I also don't think Rios is gonna get any credit for this win even tho Abril is ranked #10 LW on the ring rankings.Comment

After watching some more Rios footage recently, I've started to see his limitations more clearly. The most important quality Brandon's opponent needs (assuming he has good boxing skills, a good chin and decent pop) is mobility. And effective mobility over twelve rounds requires great stamina.
Acosta was doing great against Rios in the first half of their encounter, but he became stationary and started fighting off the ropes too long. Of course, if you get into a firefight with Brandon, you're bound to go down in flames. Had Miguel stayed mobile, that fight might easily have had a different outcome.Last edited by CubanGuyNYC; 03-19-2012, 03:21 PM.Comment
