He ain't that big. He looked much, much shorter than Pavlik, who was just on or over 6 foot, so it makes sense that he's only about 5'9"-5'10".

Margarito is clearly taller. Clearly. Margs is a solid 5'10" at the very least, while his recorded height is 5'11".

People still seem to forget that in the last great days of boxing, there were many fighters at 5'10 or more at 147. Leonard was 5'11", Hearns was 6'2"! Duran was the same height as Pac and beat Leonard.

That's a 30 year old, considered at the time past his best, facing the prime P4P No 1. who wasn't even remotely shot like Marg, but rather in his greatest prime years just having beaten another ATG legend, who was bigger, faster, supposedly stronger and many more things to go with it....It's funny how boxing gets skewed these days.

Pac beating Marg? A big thing? Give me a break! It meant jack ****e. The only reason Leonard didn't weigh in 10-15 pounds more was because they had to weigh in on the fight day.

Big difference....and certainly not necessarily an advantage.
    That's what I don't understand either.

    I don't understand why not.

I can't fathom why people are so reluctant for them to fight because Martinez is bigger. And? That's what great fighters do.

If Pac wants to enhance his legacy, Martinez is out there at 154. Is it a tough fight for him? Hell yeah it is.

    But is it winnable? Absolutely.

    The same applies for Mayweather.

    • Id say its pretty simple (even if they meet at a catch-weight) Martinez is too much of a threat.

When your trainer(Roach) openly admits that he tries anything to get advantages for Pac before a fight, I dont know why the "fans" have a hard time accepting it.

I don't get why you keep making brash statements like this about Mayweather that are hardly true.

Of course Martinez is a tough fight for Mayweather and it would be competitive, absolutely.

But he really, really, is NOT his "Kryptonite" in any way, shape, or form.
Judah tagged him with it until he faded away[mental midget]. I'm making these brash statements based on the fact those southpaws he fought never had the quickness to match him with the exception of Judah, but we all know he's a mental midget in every fights he has been in.

Martinez isn't the type to fade away and gun-shy when it comes to throwing the straight left hand. He's not a stationary target that's going to stand there in the pocket with Floyd to give him the angles he needs to accurately land the straight right hand. Floyd would be out of his league fighting a guy like that who can take his best punches. It's totally different with Pacquiao because Floyd can hurt Pacquaio[whether most of his fans admit it or not], they're respectively the same size.

          • margarito is 5'11, martinez is 5'10

but if height meant everything then marquez has no excuse for not being able to fight at 147
martinez is a much bigger fighter than margarito
like emmanuel steward said after the margarito fight, "pacquiao fighting the extremely big guys like paul williams and martinez it just doesn't fit well and should move back down"

Judah tagged him for 3-4 rounds until Mayweather adjusted.

No southpaw has hit Mayweather consistently for a duration of full fight I imagine Martinez would be no different.

I'm sorry I just can't help but laugh at the idea of Mayweather being out of his league with Martinez.

                They're 2 weight classes apart.

                Pretty damn simple.
So how do you feel about Mayweather fighting guys like DLH, Baldomir and Ortiz with similar weight differences?

Or Duran fighting Hearns and Barkley with similar to worse differences?

Or Robinson fighting LaMotta with similar to worse differences?

If Pac truly said that, wouldn't that eliminate him from being considered as good as the guys mentioned above, as far as heart goes?

Sergio is shorter than Margarito, who Pac had no problem fighting. Pac is walking around at 154. Forget what Team Pac said about 150 lbs, he can make 154.

All he has to do is have Ariza make those special shakes.
Dude seriously ... why are you asking the hard questions on a site like this?

Take all of the responses you've gotten in this topic, and cut it in thirds.

                  1/3 are from forum members.

                  1/3 are from trolls

The other 1/3 are from the trolls' aliases.

And you ask the hard questions here?

Hahaha .. so you do have a mean streak after all .. toying with the mentally challenged.

                  Good job.

We all know the answer to your original question, as we've all debated it dozens of times, but it amuses me to see those who have agendas squirm and scatter to explain such a simple inquiry.

                  • pac weighed in at 144 vs margarito you idiot.....he said after that fight he has no place fighting above 147...

what you should be asking is why is floyd fighting cotto at 154 and not the number 1 guy at 154 in martinez instead

Not only is Margarito the taller fighter, but he's the heavier fighter on fight night also.

What's wrong with asking the former junior middleweight champion to live up to the greek mythology character like aura Pac's fan's have placed on him by asking him to fight a legit 154 lb'er in Sergio Martinez.

That is unless Pac's fan's admit that he never won a legit 154 lb title.

All I want to hear from the Pac fans is "Yes, BoxingGenius27, you're right; we have contradicted ourselves greatly in the past. We tend to overrate Pac at times because we are truly fans of his and like him as a person".

I would then respect them for being humble, honest and logical. But since that day will never happen, I have to continue to call a spade a spade.
