Martinez is 5'9; Margarito is 5'10. Why can't Pac fight Sergio?

  • You're not very bright for a BoxingGenius.

    They're 2 weight classes apart.

Pac said it's too physically demanding to fight guys 20lbs heavier than him on fight night and doesn't want to do it again.

    Pretty damn simple.

Why not? He's been a jrMW his whole career really, and someone like Hagler was also only 5'9". Top 3 ATG MW.

He ain't that big. He looked much, much shorter than Pavlik, who was just on or over 6 foot, so it makes sense that he's only about 5'9"-5'10".

Margarito is clearly taller. Clearly. Margs is a solid 5'10" at the very least, while his recorded height is 5'11".

People still seem to forget that in the last great days of boxing, there were many fighters at 5'10 or more at 147. Leonard was 5'11", Hearns was 6'2"! Duran was the same height as Pac and beat Leonard.

That's a 30 year old, considered at the time past his best, facing the prime P4P No 1. who wasn't even remotely shot like Marg, but rather in his greatest prime years just having beaten another ATG legend, who was bigger, faster, supposedly stronger and many more things to go with it....It's funny how boxing gets skewed these days.

Pac beating Marg? A big thing? Give me a break! It meant jack ****e. The only reason Leonard didn't weigh in 10-15 pounds more was because they had to weigh in on the fight day.

Big difference....and certainly not necessarily an advantage.

      • Hell Pacman wouldn't even fight Cotto at 150, where he fought Margarito. That tells me all I need to know about who Pacman will fight right there!!

        • Martinez is bigger than him and he's actually good....that's it.

I don't believe for a second that Manny wouldn't fight at 154 again if it was right, meaning the money was good and the opponent was Margarito-like (crap). He wont go to 154 for Sergio though, because there's a very good chance that he would lose.

          • too slick, too skilled, too powerful and too fast for pacquiao. it would be a huge mismatch. probably more so than against mayweather. he's like what 5'5 and struggles to make 147? a weight drained, shot to pieces, margs hurt him. an old fat man made him think twice. think of what a live fighter in martinez will do to him? he'd be put on his ass with a jab.

The problem is sergio has no fans and generates literally zero revenue.

Pac/floyd/jr do not box to put sergio's non-biological children through college.

                    My thing is this Benny.

These guys put Manny on this magnificent pedistile. But the second you ask Manny to actually do something guys like Roberto Duran (5'7) has already done, in fighting a legit junior middleweight at 154, they get crazy defensive and act like you're asking Pac to do something that will get him killed. But just the other day, Pac was some sort of Demi-God, but today you're worried about him fighting his huge 5'9 junior middleweight who ways no more on than a guy you already fought (Margarito) on fight night.

                    Here's my thing Benny.

When Pac jumped up to 146 from 130 in a matter of a year, I was told that was perfectly normal because Pac's fight night weight was around 142 lbs during his 2nd fight with Marquez, anyway. I was also told that Pac has been fighting at his walk around weight for so long. I'm thinking ok, I know how to fix that problem; why didn't he just fight Bradley's at 140, since you guys think Pac is so small at WW? Of course they don't want that, because they know Bradley most proven weight is 140 lbs, so they advocate the fight happening at 147.

So then I start thinking to myself, "just the other day, I'm hearing all these myth stories about Pac supposedly fighting at his walk around weight from his Pac fans". Well, Pac's walk around weight is 154 lb's. He's already fought 5'10 Margarito at almost 170 lbs on fight night, so why can't he fight the smaller Sergio Martinez at about 162-163 on fight night? What's the problem? Guys like Roberto Duran use to do it every other month.

That's the problem. These Pac fans want to prance around NSB yelling and screaming how great their hero is, but the minute you ask their hero to do what real hero's do, in seeking new challenges, not fighting a proven jww at WW, I hear every excuse in the book:

                    1. Martinez is too big, but Margarito isn't.

                    2. There would be too much of a difference in fight night weight. But Martinez would way less than Margarito

                    3. Pac's only a real jww, but he can't fight Bradley at 140.

Some of these guys should be ashamed of themselves.

I don't get why you keep making brash statements like this about Mayweather that are hardly true.

Of course Martinez is a tough fight for Mayweather and it would be competitive, absolutely.

But he really, really, is NOT his "Kryptonite" in any way, shape, or form.
