  • Comments Thread For: Weights From NYC: Martinez-Macklin: ****Updated With Photos

By Jake Donovan - Sergio Martinez is set to defend the real middleweight championship, while Matthew Macklin has designs on capturing that very crown. Both fighters easily made weight for Saturday night’s main event at MSG’s The Theatre in New York City.

Martinez (48-2-2, 27KO) showed up at a fit and trim 157.6 lb, no surprise as he had been reportedly walking around at roughly 165 lb. for the past several months. Macklin (28-3, 19KO) weighed in at 158 lb, his lightest since 2007 when he began campaigning full time at middleweight. [Click Here To Read More]

He could easily make 154. Hopefully Kirkland is ready to fight Martinez after Molina if he wins. That's the most interesting doable fight in the division.

And some guys still think that Martinez walks around 176 ... he's always been a small MW and he always said that he walks around 166 pounds ... Well now that both of them are OK with the weight I hope we can see a good fight.

Probably not anymore, but he did get up to 176 when he was trying to bulk up. But anyway, too many people get hanged up on walking weight. It's meaningless. Even Miguel Cotto said he has walked around 178 pounds before.

Sergio is a natural 154 that moved up in weight when Bob Arum thought it was a good tune up for Pavlik. People forget that. I'm surprised Macklin came in light. He is not that tall, but he is bigger than Martinez.

Lol yeah, I mean a 178 Cotto is a lot worse than a lighter Cotto. Walking weight is not that important, for example tomorrow Sergio is not going to rehydrate to 176, but around 166 which is a regular or even small MW. Just as a comparison Rubio was 171 against Chavez Jr, and he still looked small because Jr was 180+
