Then you should delete the thread for spreading false info. Especially with a misleading tittle.

They said he requested for silver status since he won't be defending in 6 months since his last fight. Seeing as he's not Floyd or one of his favorite mexican fighters, they won't let him slide.

Press Release: On Saturday, April 21st, former Mexican Olympian Abner Mares, who recently vacated the IBF bantamweight championship, will begin his quest for a world title in the 122-pound super bantamweight division as he moves up in weight to take on Eric "Little Hands of Steel" Morel of Puerto Rico, in a twelve-round bout to be contested at a catchweight of 120 pounds. The bout will take place at the Don Haskins Center in El Paso, Texas and will be televised live on Showtime. Tickets go on sale on Saturday at 800.745.3000 or online at www.ticketmaster.com.

Unbeaten in 24 fights, Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico native Abner Mares (23-0-1, 13 KO's) first made his name as a member of Mexico's 2004 Olympic team, but he didn't truly show off his talent until he began fighting the top professional bantamweights in the world. Mares fought to a draw with Yonnhy Perez in his first world title fight in 2010, and after decisioning Vic Darchinyan later that year, he set the stage for his IBF bantamweight title winning effort against Joseph Agbeko in August 2011, which also won Showtime's bantamweight Tournament. [That bout was tainted due to Mares' repeated low blows but] in his most recent fight on December 3, 2011, Mares repeated his win over Agbeko, successfully defending his crown. Now it's time for the 26-year-old Mares to seek out new challenges as he moves up to super bantamweight.

San Juan, Puerto Rico's Eric "Little Hands of Steel" Morel (46-2, 23 KO's) has defied the odds in recent years, showing that a fighter over 30 can not only compete with the best, but also beat the best. Now 36 years young, the ex-WBA flyweight champion has won 11 straight since his last defeat to Martin Castillo in 2005. Among his list of vanquished foes are Heriberto Ruiz, Luis Maldonado and Gerry Penalosa, who he defeated for the WBO interim bantamweight belt in 2010.

              Hold on.

So they are fighting for a title at 122 at a CW of 120?

Since they both have never fought at 122?

Morel requested for the catchweight...why? Idk..even Abner claimed it was pointless since 120 is just 2 pounds away from 122...but he said oh well and is willing to do it as long as he fights. Also so what if they are fighting for a vacant title? Abner began his career at super bantam weight for his first 10 to 12 fights and only moved down because of a belt opportunity was more reachable. Plus the WBC only completed Nishioka's request to give him the emeritus title and thus be stripped the full title. Didn't a puerto rican WV2 just figh a banatam weight moving up to super for he first time in his career recently for a vacant WBO title also? I swear people have selective amnesia....

Nishioka happens to be Japanese, and WBC is controlled by a Mexican head,
and its understandable that Mexican Boxers should be given priority for the Title!
