I can't pretend to be surprised, WBC does shady **** all the time, they are pathetic. Now Donaire don't need to fight Nishioka anymore, and Mares will most likely win this fight. Expect Donaire vs. Mares in 2013.

They're at it again. Wretched WBC stripped Nishioka, will make Mares-Morel for vacant 122 belt. Morel for a 122 title? Sick
We posted this last night and the info is 100% wrong from Dan. Nishioka is taking a break in his career and REQUESTED in writing for the WBC to make him Champion Emeritus.

Makes more sense. Yeah the WBC make ****** and wrong moves all the time, but they at least need a reason of some kind.

Yeah. WBC tweeted at me that Nishioka is having personal issues.

I still think its BS that the title is on the line between two fighters that have never fought at 122.

@TheFightSource We did not stripped Nishioka, he has personal problems that doesn't allow him to fight...

            World Boxing Council ‏ @WBCBoxing
@TheFightSource therefore we decided to give him the emeritus status so whenever he's ready to come back he can fight for the world title

thanks for clearing that up, i thought the wbc did it just for mares. sucks though, since we know donaire/rigondeaux ain't happening anytime soon, the other best fight we could get is donaire/nishioka. oh well, i guess mares might be a likely opponent. i wonder if moreno would have to jump ship to top rank in order for arum to let that fight happen. i think moreno could possibly give donaire his toughest fight. he'd deff have a chance at beating him imo. but a recent interview with him said he plans on moving up later.

MARES-MOREL ANNOUNCED AT CATCHWEIGHT OF 120 POUNDS

Press Release: On Saturday, April 21st, former Mexican Olympian Abner Mares, who recently vacated the IBF bantamweight championship, will begin his quest for a world title in the 122-pound super bantamweight division as he moves up in weight to take on Eric "Little Hands of Steel" Morel of Puerto Rico, in a twelve-round bout to be contested at a catchweight of 120 pounds. The bout will take place at the Don Haskins Center in El Paso, Texas and will be televised live on Showtime. Tickets go on sale on Saturday at 800.745.3000 or online at www.ticketmaster.com.

Unbeaten in 24 fights, Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico native Abner Mares (23-0-1, 13 KO's) first made his name as a member of Mexico's 2004 Olympic team, but he didn't truly show off his talent until he began fighting the top professional bantamweights in the world. Mares fought to a draw with Yonnhy Perez in his first world title fight in 2010, and after decisioning Vic Darchinyan later that year, he set the stage for his IBF bantamweight title winning effort against Joseph Agbeko in August 2011, which also won Showtime's bantamweight Tournament. [That bout was tainted due to Mares' repeated low blows but] in his most recent fight on December 3, 2011, Mares repeated his win over Agbeko, successfully defending his crown. Now it's time for the 26-year-old Mares to seek out new challenges as he moves up to super bantamweight.

San Juan, Puerto Rico's Eric "Little Hands of Steel" Morel (46-2, 23 KO's) has defied the odds in recent years, showing that a fighter over 30 can not only compete with the best, but also beat the best. Now 36 years young, the ex-WBA flyweight champion has won 11 straight since his last defeat to Martin Castillo in 2005. Among his list of vanquished foes are Heriberto Ruiz, Luis Maldonado and Gerry Penalosa, who he defeated for the WBO interim bantamweight belt in 2010.

                Hold on.

So they are fighting for a title at 122 at a CW of 120?

Since they both have never fought at 122?

What is the point of the catch-weight? They only have to go up 4 ****in pounds to get to 122, I'm bout to pop a blood vessel because of the on-going ******ity.
