  • It was 30 days in between Roger's admittance & the Miami NO SHOW Presser!

    ROGER MAYWEATHER | FEBRUARY 13, 2012
From an article with Chris Robinson from the examiner

Before our conversation came to a close I asked Roger about the recent sighting of featherweight sensation Yuriorkis Gamboa to the gym last week. The undefeated Cuban was in town hanging out with Floyd Jr. and Roger, while not being specific, hinted that he may be working his nephew in another capacity.

“He was with my nephew,” Roger said of Gamboa. “He signed with my nephew. My nephew is going to promote him I guess. All I know is that he said he’s with my nephew.”

Last time we checked Gamboa was co-promoted by Ahmet Öner and Top Rank, however, so Roger’s words were taken with a grain of salt.

Why didn't Top Rank probe into this at that time? It was 30 Days from when Roger said Gamboa signed with Floyd and the first Miami NO SHOW. Why did it take Top Rank so long to react & get to the bottom of the allegations of what THEIR fighter was up to? Why continue with the promotion? March 5, 2012 was the First Presser in Miami when boxing scene released this article.

Is 30 days enough to for Top Rank to ask Gamboa if he's signed another promotional contract and if he is still planning on fighting Rios in april?

Serious Question though, Wouldn't Arum have looked into this immediately? I actually forgot how far back this interview was but it was on pretty much every site and talked about on NSB. Im wondering why action wasn't taken then? The missed press conference was last week and they already have a lawsuit.

I don't think he meant to be doing anything helpful for Top Rank..........Anyone who wants to help Top Rank should send a copy of that post to them, they'd appreciate it.

Maybe they want to allow expenses and damages to pile up, thereby tying Gam boa more firmly to To Rank as the best way out of the mess he made.

            Just a thought.

I don't think Top Rank would need anyone to send them this article. It was posted on every site. He was aware of what Roger said so I am wondering why he wouldn't get info about this earlier and still continue with the promotion?

I see that point of view but if Gamboa was hanging out with Mayweather in vegas and he signed a contract over a month before the Miami presser how do we know Arum wasn't informed then by Gamboa he didn't want the fight? If he was told by Gamboa when the Mayweather rumors spread that he didn't want the fight, wanted to break the VERBAL agreement & Arum continues the promotion to rack up fee's would that be Gamboas fault?

This "no signed" contract issue is peculiar

This helps Top Rank on their lawsuit first point.

"However, upon information, Top Rank believes one or more rival boxing promotion companies and unknown individuals associated with them are at the root of Gamboa's wrongful conduct. These 'poachers' see what everyone sees -- a gifted boxer platformed by Top Rank for superstardom-- and they want to unfairly capitalize on what Top Rank orchestrated and built. Upon information and belief, the rival promoters and others promised Gamboa that if he breaches his contract with Top Rank, they will promote his fights."

If you think this will help Gamboa, your definitely wrong, use your common sense, that website is like a blog/gossip website. Its only Gamboa or his team can only inform Top Rank that Gamboa no longer interested to that fight. But it will be a big help to Top Rank on their First Point of their lawsuit.

SO 30 days was more than enough time for Top Rank to investigate the claims put forth by Roger Mayweather?
