If this is all true, then it's a shame what they are trying to do with Gamboa.

    but............

I read that Gamboa and his people took 70K in advance money for this fight, so you can't take money and then back out of it after the venue is set up and everything is paid for.

Not a good way of doing business and Gamboa needs to surround himself with better people and stop listening to the whispers in his ears.

Gamboa is going to be sued, he's going to lose and his rep has been damaged. Not a good way to start off before what could be your biggest fight ever.

as far as his contract goes he believes it's expired much like the way Donaire thought his was as well. My guess is that TR has options on renewal which they probably exercised and Gamboa isn't realizing that

now as far as the actual fight is concerned let me ask you this

how do you take an advance on a fight that you never agreed to?

From a common law perspective you don't need to sign a formal doc for court to deem a valid contract is in place. If Yuri has taken 70k in relation to an offer from TR, the court would likely see that as consideration and thus an acceptance of terms on his part. Gamboa's only hope (if we take these "facts" at face value) is that the terms he agreed to were subsequently changed which would give him a potential out.

Sad situation. It would be a tragedy to have a fighter of his caliber sidelined for a long period of time.

        1. Top Rank takes at least 30% of Gamboa's purse, Ahmet Oner who is not only Gamboa's co promoter, he also happens to be with Gamboa before top rank and in fact was the guy who paid and got Gamboa out of Cuba takes about another 30%. I'll just focus on the big boys and skip over the managers like Luis DeCubas and Gonzales who are also taking a percentage of his purse.

So just there you are leaving Gamboa, the fighter, taking home only 40%.

        But it dosen't end there.

        2. Gamboa is used to his cuban trainer 'Ismael Salas' and became champion with him, said he would never want to fight for anyone else. Top Rank forces him to switch trainer and go with Emmanuel Stewart right before the biggest and most dangerous fight of his career, even though gamboa was completely against it. Oh and dosen't speak a word of english by the way.

Not only that, but add to that that Emmanuel Stewart for being who he is would most likely take no less than 10% of gamboa's cut.

At this point Gamboa's purse is left at 30% to fight his biggest fight without his head trainer.

Is he really to blame for not fighting Rios ? Or is the corruption in boxing we should be once again blaming.

Its a good one to think about.

Well if everything that you say is true then I dont blame Gamboa. If the fight did happen then Bam Bam would have got dealt with it.

Facts? So you were there the day they agreed upon everything and Gamboa "took the advance"?

For all we know Gamboa and Top Rank been operating on an expired contract according to Gamboa's lawyer. So wtf do you know about facts? I'm pretty sure all the "facts"haven't been thrown at us. As you can see all we know are the points that are only convenient to Top Rank in this situation.

If everything that you said is true, then I blame Gamboa. He made the contract with Top Rank and Oner.

But then how to prove that all terms were agreed to, without evidence of minds meeting through a signed and sealed contract?

I don't care. He talked shlt, he agreed to the fight, and then he pulled out.

He can go Sandra Fluke himself.

Gamboa's lawsuit has a copy of his financial terms for the Rios fight and they don't even come close to the numbers listed by the thread starter. Top Rank and Arena were being paid through HBO's license fee and weren't getting anything from Gamboa's $1.1 million dollar purse - the amount the promoters agreed to pay him!

His contract terms are also in the suit. Gamboa gets a min of $250-300 for ANY fight. Top Rank and Arena get 0% his minimum.

I have no idea where the thread starter got his facts, and why he posted them on numerous forums, but they are WAY OFF the actual numbers on paper.

From what we have heard, SEVERAL writers callled Top Rank's legal counsel asking about these numbers and they continue to point back to the same user on every forum someone reads this on.
