World Boxing Council President Jose Sulaiman has revealed to BoxingScene(dot)om that Floyd Mayweather Jr. (42-0, 26KOs) will lose his status as the WBC welterweight champion, because the boxer is moving up to junior middleweight to fight Miguel Cotto for the WBA championship on May 5th, and then Mayweather will spend three months in jail for a domestic abuse charge.

Aydin already had the Silver (supposed to be an "Interim") WBC title, but because of the rules the WBC make and break along the way, the status hasn't been enforced.

I want to see Guerrero vs. the winner of Berto-Ortiz before a Mayweather fight, but I doubt there'll be time before Mayweather's next fight (unless he decides to face Canelo after his release).

The winner gets first crack at Mayweather - per the WBC - once released, but Mayweather will retain the full WBC title, for now.

Not really....everyone who moves to another division for a title fight automatically gets stripped. You can't have two titles in two divisions.
