Just saw this again as a bonus feature on the Hatton ppv.
It was different for two reasons: one, the picture quality was better than a stream. Two, it was UK commentary. As this was (as far as I'm aware) the first time Floyd had been seen on UK TV, a lot of the commentary was just factual, explaining where he'd been, who he'd fought, etc. And while it was complimentary, it was more laid-back and just informative rather than totally subjective.
So what struck me is just how much more competitive it was than it first appeared. Granted, Floyd was always a league above, but Mitchell's southpaw stance and not inconsiderable speed gave him problems. Look at the end of round two where Floyd's head is rocked back, or round five where Floyd doesn't actually do anything substantial until the last thirty seconds or so.
When I saw this fight last Saturday I thought it was another virtuoso performance from Mayweather. Seeing it again today it was just a decent performance against someone who was reasonably competitive... in fact, you could argue a case for saying Mitchell was ahead on points before the sixth. Seriously.
Watch it again without the sound. There are vast numbers of occasions where Floyd is missing, getting hit and doing nothing. But all the time this is happening Gray and Merchant are arguing over who gets the next suck on his ****. HBO are trying to build this guy into a superstar, and while only a fool would deny that he's talented, it's not the performance they would have you believe.
