    Mayweather vs. Mitchell Revisited

Just saw this again as a bonus feature on the Hatton ppv.

It was different for two reasons: one, the picture quality was better than a stream. Two, it was UK commentary. As this was (as far as I'm aware) the first time Floyd had been seen on UK TV, a lot of the commentary was just factual, explaining where he'd been, who he'd fought, etc. And while it was complimentary, it was more laid-back and just informative rather than totally subjective.

So what struck me is just how much more competitive it was than it first appeared. Granted, Floyd was always a league above, but Mitchell's southpaw stance and not inconsiderable speed gave him problems. Look at the end of round two where Floyd's head is rocked back, or round five where Floyd doesn't actually do anything substantial until the last thirty seconds or so.

When I saw this fight last Saturday I thought it was another virtuoso performance from Mayweather. Seeing it again today it was just a decent performance against someone who was reasonably competitive... in fact, you could argue a case for saying Mitchell was ahead on points before the sixth. Seriously.

Watch it again without the sound. There are vast numbers of occasions where Floyd is missing, getting hit and doing nothing. But all the time this is happening Gray and Merchant are arguing over who gets the next suck on his ****. HBO are trying to build this guy into a superstar, and while only a fool would deny that he's talented, it's not the performance they would have you believe.

I thought Mitchell was doing well until he give up, i have no doubt Mayweather would have won but Mitchell could have made a good fight out of it. But what do i expect, Mitchell is famous for being a quitter.

I only saw it yesterday and thought it was alot closer than people were saying on here last weekend but I still had PBF 4 rounds up. The stoppage was pretty dubious IMO. Mitchell was wincing but he looked fine as soon as the ref waved it off - not sure what he was doing there

I was surprised to see how many exchanges Mitchell got in. After Gatti I thought Floyd was invincible because I saw him get hit maybe 2 times but after this fight I now know that Hatton will give this guy a helluva fight. I was expecting a knockout from Floyd the whole fight but I thought it would come around 9 or 10 because Mitchell was making a pretty good fight. Floyd's performance showed that he isn't invincible.

Only if you're German and Mitchell is German. Floyd was winning handily. It was fairly competitive though and Floyd doesn't belong at 147. ****** for putting on that muscle when he will need his speed to beat Hatton. Still has plenty of speed and great defense though.

I reckon it was you and Evil pumping his full the night before that softened his midsection up.

Sorry, I've been serious for 20 minutes, couldn't last.

              Five rounds, right?

              Okay, here we go:

I was only half-watching the first round because I was getting a drink but it looked as if you could ARGUE the point that Mitchell just edged it. Yeah, I know Floyd was in control, but I'm counting punches landed. As I say, half-watching.

Round Two: Again, close, with several flush shots landed at the bell by Mitchell.

Round Three: Mitchell gets KD'd which I forgot when I wrote that bit so it means I was talking rubbish. Oops! Stick with it though, because:

Round Five: Floyd does thirty seconds of good work, and two-and-a-half minutes of **** all. Arguably that Mitchell again nicked it.

Three rounds out of five that Mitchell COULD have justifiably edged on the cards.

Damn Right! THANK YOU!!! I've had this same argument on several different forms and you're about the only guy who has also expressed this thought! Richard Steele wins again by KO.

Sharmba is obviously on the decline and had some bumpy spots in that fight but he pulled himself together and boxed well enough and even landed some good shots; enough to keep the hyper aggressive PBF from swarming him. No respect for a former champ and no respect for the heart he showed in reaching the 6th round after some early difficulty.

                    QUITTER??

You need to become a quitter and stop trolling, eleviel.
