The chin aint weak, its the stamina, and once the stamina goes, evrything else follows.

Weak chin is what a person whose ko'ed in the first half of fights has. Our fighters generally get koed in the later rounds and the reason is the same always:

Cotto, Calderon, Juanma, Vazquez Jr. etc., they all got tired.

If theres a rican with a weak chin right now, hes a non factor in the sport of boxing.

Juanma's biggest problem wasnt his defense though, it was his speed and accuracy, Ill explain myself.

Compare faces and watch the fight for a second time and mentally keep up with the wild swings both guys threw. Then watch compubox stats again.

If Juanma was a more efficient boxer he would have stopped Salido. Most of the punches he connected where on the inside cause Salido was just ducking and weaving everything on the outside. I dont think a trainer can fix a boxer's speed, and unless his accuracy improves, he better start ducking Salido type fighters, but if he's going to do that, he might as well retire.

I think mexicans would eat **** before ricans.

Not bashing, its just that if we where to choose (and we already have), we would go with these animals first.

Right... so I guess you just started watching boxing a few years ago and missed Trinidad's whole career.

I know it might sound offensive, but it is the truth though. Look at Cotto and Lopez. These guys have very little punch resilience. Tito got floored a couple of times and stopped once but I am not sure maybe it's the training in Puerto Rico as Tito lost every second of every minute of every round against Winky, which was beyond ridiculous!

Back in the day Carlos Ortiz was the man, but I can't think of any other fighter from the country that really does have good punch resilience. But again is it their defense, Calderon is pretty good defensively but when he gets hit he gets weak. Is it the chins, the food or the training? Why Puerto Rican fighters don't have the punch resilience?
If I may I will like to start with the man by the name of Tito. Trinidad did not have a weak chin his chin was solid hence I never saw him hurt until rd. 11 at the end of the B-hop fight. His problem were his legs(the reason Pac can take a punch so good is his calfs) Cotto Cotto and JuanMa have the same problem although JuanMa is worst which is the Defense. ***ing Camacho could take a punch like no other revisit his fight against another Rican fighter in Rosario(many say this is when Camacho decided to he was no longer going to get hit) Although he won he took major bombs. Just a few to point out to you that your thread has fail all over it.

Straight up, Mexicans have great chins. There are exceptions, obviously, but we see it consistently enough for it to be clear.

I think it could also be the way their trained. They come up as FIGHTERS from a young age. There's a mentality behind how they fight and train that differs on a fundamental level from Puerto Ricans.

Mexicans are brought up with the mentality that getting hit is a big part of the sport, while Puerto Ricans are brought up to box more so they have a different mentality ingrained in their heads.

Most of it is genetic, but I'm sure some of it is how they're developed.
Ok you go on in this statement to say it's a cultural difference, but at the and say it's mainly genetic. And i love to here your genetic basis for Mexican fighters being able to take more physical assaults to the head than PRs. You realize Mexican and PR ppl are extremely similar genetically as are most humans. Plus you must not watch boxing or at least mexican boxing much. They get KTFO all the time......

I think we need to all get on the same page lol, are the terms "chin" and "punch resistance" synonymous or are they correlative?

To me, having a chin is being able to withstand facial punishment, while punch resistance has to do with the way the body reacts when being hit, if that makes any sense lol. I think Cotto and Juanma have good/decent chins, it's the punch resistance that they lack. They tend to be visibly shaken when they get hit flush, and they might get frozen for a second. This could also be if a fighter goes into the ring cold as well, or if he's dehydrated or his weight fluctuates too much. Usually, when guys go up in weight, their punch resistance will get better, but I don't believe a chin can ever improve. Once the chin is cracked, there's no repairing it.

Juanma's problem is not chin or desire it's the flaws he has like keeping his chin up in the air without moving his upperbody to avoid punches. Also Salido has very sneaky punches that come out of nowhere when it looks like he's out of position, that right hand that hurt Juanma was crazy because it came out of nowhere.

It might be a good idea for Puerto Rican's to look outside of the island when looking for trainers and sparring.
PR needs to look to its big sister (Cuba) for quality trainers. I am convinced trainers in PR are over hyped mitt men, no true skill or depth to their knowledge of the game. Maybe in times past, but no more. All of our guys reach a plateau, peak, and decline. Where are our elites???

I think we are growing soft too, too much comfort, even if you are poor (mantengo), the older generations worked harder, they were made of a tougher fiber, they didn't make excuses. If you fell, you got up, and tried again. Nowadays kids and teens are way too involved in videogames and other nonsense to care about athletics and other sports. It's not just boxing where we are declining, our baseball is declining, our basketball seems to have peaked as well etc...

We need to look to Cuba for the nearest quality trainers, with similar cultures. Hostos always said the Antilles were ike three sisters, we need the biggest one now or we're going to be stuck eating punches from our Mexican compadres for some time.
