Sadly, it is the same old story. It's even more tragic when a super-talented athlete like Gamboa gets dragged through the mud and put through the wringer.

I was just thinking the other day how much better it is for Cuban defectors in baseball. Shortly after fleeing Cuba, Aroldis Chapman signed a six-year $30.25 million dollar deal with the Cincinnati Reds. Aroldis was only 22 and had never thrown a single pitch in the Major Leagues. 26-year-old Yoenis Céspedes just signed a four year $36 million dollar deal with the Oakland A's. Yoenis has never before played professional baseball.

Yuriorkis is 30-years-old and made his pro debut almost five years ago. Only now, with the Rios fight, was Gamboa finally going to collect his first million-dollar purse. It's a cosmic joke that the fight may never materialize....

what a ridiculous night for boxing. i'll certainly never forget it, or be able to keep from laughing when i hear anybody reference being "glassed"

i'll be 70 years old, and the second i hear somebody talk of getting "glassed" i'll think of dereck chisora slapping vitali, spitting in wladimir's face, and getting glassed. oh and telling a room full of reporters he was going to shoot david haye.

if gamboa really holds out he's making a horrible decision
this guy does not have the time or the leverage. he has very few fans. he is 30 years old.

TR will put his career on ice if he really tries to pull this off

Guess its too good to be true, were exactly my thoughts about the prospect of Rios and Gamboa fighting.

So true. MLB is a whole different ball game than prize fighting, no pun intended. Guys like Yuri need to protect their best interest, and calculate moves because boxing is cut-throat. One wrong business decision and you're done, thrown under the bus. As disappointed as I am in a Rios-Gamboa fight not materializing I have been supporting Gamboa 100%. However I want to hear his side and it would be great for him to show face.

I don't get what Gamboa's doing here. Promoter problems or not, he was being set up in a tremendous way here. Beating Rios would have opened so many doors that would have allowed him to have the power to deal with this much more effectively at a later date. Terrible, disappointing move on his part.
