Airich upsets Pala with ninth round TKO
In a clash of world ranked heavyweights, IBF #15 Konstantin Airich (23-5-2, 17 KOs) scored the biggest win of his career with a spectacular ninth round TKO over WBO #6 Ondrej Pala (30-3, 21 KOs) on Friday night at the Atatürk Spor Salonu in Tekirdag, Turkey. The normally aggressive Airich was never able to get untracked early as Pala picked him apart with jabs and power shots. Airich finally came to life in round six when he staggered Pala, but the referee stopped the action when both fighters lost their mouthpieces and Pala was given plenty of time to recover. Pala regained control in the seventh and eighth, but in the ninth Airich caught Pala in the corner again and had him ready to go. Pala spit out his mouthpiece again, but after a short delay (and point deduction) Airich was all over him with a non-stop barrage of punches that forced a referee’s stoppage. In their first bout in 2009, Pala took a majority decision over Airich.
