Rios-DeMarco has the potential to be a true classic. DeMarco proved himself an elite lightweight by coming from behind to stop Jorge Linares and take the vacant WBC lightweight title

    Marcos Maidana (31-3, 28 KOs)
Yeah he just lost to Devon Alexander, but he didnt have any damage in the dec lost. He moving back down to junior welterweight and a bout with Rios at 140 lbs would be an instant classic.

    John Molina (23-1, 19 KOs)
Molina lacks the name recognition of other fighters on this list and has mostly fought at the club level up to now, but few lightweights are as earnest and as entertaining as Molina.

    Michael Katsidis (28-5, 23 KOs)
He is at the end of a tough, brutal career and has lost three of his last four bouts. But as a late replacement, Katsidis is a top notch opponent and is guaranteed to produce a real war for as long as the fight lasts.

    Jorge Linares (31-2, 20 KOs)
Linares may be one of the most skilled fighters in the sport and was on his way to winning the vacant WBC lightweight title before cuts and a hard-charging Antonio DeMarco ended his title dream. He is still the real deal, though, and would give Rios a tough fight and be good test for his brains and conditioning.
Another couple of lightweights that I think could be interesting

    Ricky Burns
    Kevin Mitchell
Tbh though I think Rios probably beats them both

I would love that fight, but I think JMM is tired of being that guy to fight the Rios types. He wants to get his big paydays and retire now.

I see no reason for him to stay at 135 if it's not Gamboa. At 140 Maidana is out of the question. He wants to rest. That's a good future fight though.

Theres really not a whole lot of open slots at 140 now though. Perterson, Khan, Matthyse, Paeis, Judah are all tied up and Id rather see him fight a guy like this then Fucking recently overrated Demarco. Don't care for Alvarado either. Fun fight, but not one I would see as a top challenge.

Rios said he's only staying at 135 for a big fight or title fight. DeMarco already has a fight set, Maidana just fought in February, Linares already has a fight set, Katsidis is POINTLESS, and Molina....possible.

Maidana...they are like mirror images of one another. Linares and DeMarco would outbox Rios.

Macos Maidana has a lot of weight to lose if he's returning to 140. He was 157 pounds at WW, but was only 149 pounds when he fought at Jr WW. He would need more time to shed the pounds.

Lucas Matthyse would be good, but he's fighting Soto.

So my #1 pick is Mike Alvarado.
