These guys don't seem to understand the mechanics of the boxing business. Arum would never publicly announce that he had a valid contract if he didn't have. If is was shown that he was bluffing about a legal matter it could ruin Top Rank's reputation. No lawyer messes around with the truth about valid contracts in public statements.

Gamboa doesn't say that he hasn't, he says he just wants his contract to be better for him. He also says that he is very happy with the Rios fight and the terms were very satisfactioy. This seems contrary to the reports that he says he never agreed to the fight. Anyway, Top Rank is prepared to show documents that prove that he agreed. Why would they otherwise take a chance on a fickle-minded fighter by spending lots of money on the PR conferences etc. They'll sue, and could tie him up until his newly signed contract runs out. And they'll be able to still claim pecuniary losses. So Gamboa can lose both ways.

His lawyer is newly on the job, and just saying feel-good legalese to justify and perhaps enlarge his fees which he is already counting in his head.

Donaire's now wife decided at age 23 that she wanted to be his manager, and immediately caused the problem, being too ****** and uninformed to know that he had a valid contract. At the same time she had picked a row with MannyP's wife, and Arum unwisely made a comment supporting Mrs. Pacquiao. All this time, lurking in the background by fortuitous coincidence was good old Oscar, who has been the instigator of similiar fighter stealing a few times already.

You know the facts, shouldn't try act as if it was Top Rank's fault just because you dislike Arum.

B!tch move by Gamboa... He is holding this fight hostage to improve his promotional terms with his promoters.
The problem is, he should do it AFTER he beats Rios, proving that he is worth every penny and can back up his mouth.

Gamboa lost a lot of fans with this move.

What you say is obviously fact. that's why Top Rank is slowly losing it's pre-eminence in the boxing world. They probably only have about 200 top fighters left, plus all the undercard guys. At the rate they're losing them, it'll only be another 75 years before they slip to second place.

So...you're gonna try and tell me he just magically knew he disagreed with the terms of the fight? Or are you gonna try and tell me he didn't know about the fight at all?

He wasn't even training, he didn't want the fight, and waited until the last possible moment to drop that little bombshell. No reason to beat around the bush.

According to the report (which of course is just a report,) this is the standard practice in the business to preceed with the PR before the actual contracts are finally signed. I believe that a memorandum of intention to accept is usual. It would be indeed foolish to spend large sums both of money and reputation on arranging such a high profile fight without some guarantee that the fight it on.

American networks need to ban him. If he wants to play games, go back to Cuba. This **** is unacceptable and someone needs to the fans spearheaded by the networks need to show that they are the boss.
